A member of LU station staff was stabbed in the face today at Lancaster Gate station.
I find it utterly incomprehensible that anybody thinks this is normal behaviour. Sadly stabbings and other serious crimes are becoming an every day occurrence now such that its almost not news anymore.
Having been seriously assaulted myself a few years ago by a "customer", my thoughts are with my fellow colleague and the process they will no go through - both their injuries, legally and in their return to work.

It is seriously alarming that we seem to have bred a generation (or two) who seem to think that using a knife is a viable response to something that is not a life and death situation.
[Not saying that it is an appropriate response, even, then, but at least it's understandable.]
Let us all hope that the injuries sustained are not life (or eyesight) threatening, and do not lead to lasting physical or psychological injuries.

Pity we can't send him to Saudi Arabia, chop his hands off. No doubt there's some money grabbing bar steward waiting to defend him blaming it all on us and society in general!! RANT OVER

I'm very sorry to hear about this and my very best wishes go to the person involved and their family.
That, I'm sure, was Colin's intention in opening the thread and I hope we can leave the whys and wherefores to the police and the social scientists.

This is very sad news. I hope no serious damage was done, and hopefully a speedy recovery back to work.
Was the person responsible caught?

My thoughts go out to the victim and that they are supported and back on the mend physically and psychologically soon. Pity we can't send him to Saudi Arabia, chop his hands off. No doubt there's some money grabbing bar steward waiting to defend him blaming it all on us and society in general!! RANT OVER I do not want to make this a focus of discussion here, however I too once thought the same... today I cannot disagree more. All actions have a cause... emotions that are not being dealt with. Many will know that my wife and I have adopted children. Since starting the process I have learnt that behaviour is cyclical throughout generations. If violence is what you experienced as a child, violence is all you know and one of the few channels as a youth/adult you have to express yourself when angry/agitated. Understanding is the only way we have to break the cycle, otherwise we reinforce and encourage these flawed behaviours within society. Yes they need to be punished, but they also need help too...

Apparently a man in his 40's has been arrested in connection with this assault (as per the BBC London news.)

It is sad that a person has suffered what could well be life changing injuries whilst simply doing their job. That this occurred in the middle of the morning (BBC News: "at around 10:40 GMT") makes it perhaps even more worrying.
