Another Thames News blast from the past. This time from the early 1990s with Malcolm Rifkind, then Secretary of State, visting LU to be harangued by Denis Tunnicliffe and Sir Wilfrid Newton for more money for the tube. Watching Rifkind's response to the interviewer is most telling of public transport's rank on the public spending ladder.
The clip features what must be the A stock refurb prototype plus the first few 67, 72 and C stock refurbs.

I must say that A stock refurb prototype looks fantastic. Full sized luggage racks, high backed traverse seating, a proper mainline train. Clearly designed to compete against NSE's new Chiltern Turbos for 'long' distance traffic.

But one of those luggage racks wouldn't fit nicely in between the panels in my hallway!

But one of those luggage racks wouldn't fit nicely in between the panels in my hallway! Nor mine, If I am ever permitted to put it up. (no darling it's not junk it will look great in the hall and just think of the extra storage!)
