As far as I can see, the CSLR was extended to Moorgate in February 1900. It was then extended to Angel in November 1901. The evidence of the scissors crossover south of Moorgate is still there. So why was a trailing crossover (in a separate tunnel) put in north of the station? Why didn't they use the existing enlarged tunnel south of the station? Or was it put in the 1920s when the tunnels were enlarged? Secondly, the line wasn't extended to Euston until 1907. So how did the trains terminate at Angel between 1901 and 1907? I remember when Angel was an island platform (as it seems were other stations that were termini: Euston and Clapham Common. Can't really explain Clapham North - maybe the platforms had to fit underneath the existing road pattern above), but I don't remember there being a space for any sort of crossover at the southern end of the station.

There was a crossover at the south end of Angel station which was built over when the platforms were extended. The original C&SLR stations had shorter platforms. This is apparent when passing through the closed City Road station.

Thanks for that, Superteacher. Just couldn't remember pre-enlargement Angel. Still puzzled about Moorgate, though.
