The local lines between Campbell Junction and Upminster were once signalled using LMS Mirfield signalling, quite different from the LT signalling or mainline semaphore/colour light signalling found elsewhere on the District.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
The Mirfield system was also used on the Bakerloo north of Queens Park and had some very odd features indeed. For instance at Bushey the starting signal had 4 searchlight signals on a single pole but each with it's own head. The thing would display 4 red lights as it was a junction signal also. The light that went OUT indicated which route you were taking. For greater information there is a book named "British Railway Signalling" By G.M.Kitchenside and Alan Williams published by Ian Allen which gives all the information required and also colour illustrations of the different types of signalling that have been used in this country including LT. I don't know if this publication is still available but your local library service MAY have a copy.
