I can't compete with Q8 but I offer this.
1967. Just started earning. Live at Oakwood, Work at Euston. Hear of brand new type of store - called Comet. It's at Dagenham (excuse me WHERE?) Only one in the country. But cheaper than anything else seen so far. Christmas time. Prezzies for the family. Head out after work to this place called Dagenham (Where?) Xmas shopping New shaver for Dad New hair dryer for Mum Something for Sister (too long ago to remember that!) Can't look at goods - they come in sealed boxes and there is no display area. Try to pay by cheque (no debit cards then) Cheque accepted BUT THEY TAKE YOUR PHOTOGRAPH. Collect goods from collection area. Back from this God-forsaken (!) hole called Dagenham. (DON'T ask - I can't remember WHICH dagenham!) Back home.
Xmas day: give presents - they all work (Phew!)
Everyone happy.
Happy Days!!!!!!!!!!!!

Are you praising Comet Phil, or are you trying to get us to admire your quick thinking in getting Xmas presents for your family and collegues?

TBH, all I was saying is that I'd go anywhere (even to Dagenham!!! ) to save a few squid on Xmas Prezzies ;D ;D ;D
Also, Comet was a completely new idea then. No display, no shop assisants, just tills where they took your money, but up to 1/3 cheaper than anything you could get elsewhere. Imagine your local Argos but a hundred times bigger......

I did all mine on the internet and saved a bomb. Well, about £16. But still. You avoid the crowds. And the idiots you get at shops. Excuse me, i think i should go to the rant section!

Ah, NOW you've got my point Chris.
in 1967 Comet WAS our generation's equivalent of the Internet. We didn't even have credit/debit cards then.
