Roll a cigarette. (Admin, why is "f a g" on the swear list? This not being an American forum.)

Unless informed otherwise, all train operators should know what to do, and that is do not just sit there like a prune for hours on end. Three of the four are Automatic signals remaining at danger, for which there is a procedure. If they were controlled signals there is a procedure for that too. Clever stuff this rule book ;D But then this being the "Historical" section, were there procedures or did you do as PP mentions or did you wind up and see if you can make the platform?

Seems like the third signal should be green, but has a blown bulb. The second signal a trainstop failure, which would cause the first signal to remain at danger as protection. All three should be treated as signals remaining at danger and the "appropriate proceedure applied", to each individually. Probably wrong, but it sound's good!

Yes there have always been procedures about passing signals at Danger, I still have my LTE Rule Book, the procedure was laid down in Rule 55g

were there procedures or did you do as PP mentions Rolling a ciggy for a trainman is the same as a signalman putting the kettle on when something goes wrong. It provides thinking time.

Thanks DWS that is what I did. I.E. applied rule 55g but I cheated a bit to save time as it was the peak. I cut out the trip and reversed the control governor and ran dead slow into the platform and cut them both in again. Logged this on the trouble card and told the D.I. when I saw him and also filled in a trainman's report as well. The D.I. said it was a bit out of order but I need not worry as I had caused the minimum of initial delay. The delay did get worse though as they started S to S working whilst the AET 's went down the tunnel to work on the defects. Incidentally I never knew the explanation for the failures until I read the post in this forum today. I do know however that at the time they were searching for a train that had a grounding motor which may have had something to do with the whole kaboodle. P.S. See new thread re - grounding motors
