Whilst passing Barking Sidings on Sunday morning I spotted an S7 with the destination set as Upminster All Stations. I was surprised to see it as there are no other options on the District line, unlike the different stopping patterns of the Met.
Is there any reasoning behind this description?

Pure guesswork but two possibilities come to mind: 1. The indicator was programmed by somebody who was confusing the requirements for S7s and S8s 2. Somebody thinks that passengers and West Ham and Barking need the additional information.
Personally I think that anybody who was that confused at West Ham would probably think that Barking was the only stop before Upminster anyway.

Yes, kind of odd considering that only runs from Wimbledon to Edgware Road on the District.

Yes, kind of odd considering that only runs from Wimbledon to Edgware Road on the District. I suspect that all the possible destinations for S stock are already programmed in so anything is possible. Also, they do run the occasional S stock between West Ham/Barking and other destinations like Olympia (and have been doing for some time), not just Wimbledon to Edgware Road.

Well there you go then, not just Wimbledon - Edgware Road like you said at first. I don't know if they terminate at Plaistow. Somebody will no doubt let us know, but West Ham and Barking definitely.

In the current WTT train 753 does a number of Olympia - Plaistow runs Monday to Friday for training purposes. It leaves Lillie Bridge depot for Olympia at 10 02 and then returns to Lillie Bridge depot from Olympia at 16 15. It then goes back out again at 18 57 stabling at 23 14. This runs as required, but when it does run it's in passenger service. On the weekends it's back out on its training runs - again runs as required - but only runs in service at the discretion of the service manager. It also runs to Plaistow on the weekends, though a lot of the time it runs to Parsons Green to reverse back to Plaistow, rather than Olympia, presumably because of the shuttle. More training runs have since been introduced. juliang refers to 753, 754 and 755. Apparently 121 is also an S7 now and that one goes to Ealing. They do also go to Barking. More on this thread. They definitely don't go to Upminster yet, though. They've been to Richmond, but they're not allowed back yet

As from 20 October, 753 has been replaced by 755. 754 still runs and indeed 121 is an S Stock M-F. When investigating this 'all-stations' phenomenon on S Stock i found that it cannot be programmed into District or H&C workings, although i'd seen them myself! Two possibilities are; - they are the workings to/from Neasden depot which do provide for stopping patterns to be added, or - after the 'maintenance test' has run its course in depot or sidings the display will show "400" "all-stations" as default. An S Stock will not 'find' it's location until it arrives at a station, hence workings from depots or siding may show random displays until the route is found. All S Stock (S7/S8) have the same software in the customer information system.

Well they can go to Upney as far as the signalling is concerned with hopefully Upminster on the cards just this side of Christmas. Becontree to Upminster Bridge has now been converted I'm sure the resident upgrade person here would be able to say more on a final date when its all due to be completed by.

I have observed the "All Stations" phenomenon on a District S7 in the sidings at Parsons Green during disruption, after it had cycled through a number of different display options. Is that something that S stock do, when they realise they are in a siding and are being setup, do a self test. Is that the "maintenance" test Dstock7080 is referring to?

Last week,I was on an S7 (T121) that displayed Barking All Stations at Hammersmith E/B, the CIS announced that the train was at Ealing Broadway terminating there. At the next station the T/Op inputted the correct destination code and the train and all went back to normal.

Perhaps the system is futureproofed for express services on the District? There's one for the fantasy land people

Whilst I would normally defer to your greater knowledge in all things for District Line things, may I respectfully submit I saw a "753" working from HSK on the 23rd (Thursday)? I would have caught the thing as well but I was with a wheelchair user and so couldn't get it in time
