As of 17:53 this evening (23rd October), the TfL website is showing that the Northern line has:
I'm just wondering what exactly has been responsible for such an almighty bit of service disruption.
Edit: Mind you, the overview is already (18:00) more optimistic, with severe delays everywhere, but no part suspensions reported on the website.

It hasn't been a good day for the Northern. Moorgate was closed due to a fire alert as I passed through shortly after 2:30.

tut, I was in London yesterday (typing this within minutes of getting back home) with my mother and we also heard the information given as signal failure, although they said MULTIPLE signal failures.
Chris M, we passed through Moorgate around 14:37 ish and there was people on the platforms but we didn't stop. Would it not it be better to close access to the platforms and put those already on the trains?

How do you stop people getting off though? My guess is that either evacuation wasn't complete or you saw staff on the platform?
Based on my Oyster history, I will have passed through Moorgate on a sb Northern Line train at about that time. We didn't stop, there was nobody on the platform and the station closed board was displayed.

Fair point, Chris...
There were ordinary passengers (or is it Passengers-To-Be?) on the platforms. Personally I was a little glad we did not stop because with my mother in her wheelchair it would have been murder to make space

It was a failure of 20B points at Camden Town. Points were undetectable and unmoveable. A 32 minute delay initally, but as the rush hour was starting, the delays built up.
Fault was investigated, but couldn't be found. Fault then cleared by itself. To play safe, Nortbound Bank trains served Edgware, while Charing X trains served Barnet.
