The 05:10 South West Trains service from Twickenham to London Waterloo on 4th February 1996 was the very first privatized scheduled train service in 48 years. Does anyone know what was the very last British Rail operated scheduled passenger service?

The last departure was the Glasgow service for Edinburgh at 23.30 on Monday 31st March 1997.
However the last arrival was the London Euston - Fort William portion of the Highland Train (1S25/1Y11 after the train split into separate parts at Edinburgh) and did not reach Fort William until 1030 April 1st - it continued to be announced as a BR train until journey's end.
The last freight service operated by BR was the 2315 service from Dollands Moor to Wembley on 21 November 1997 and was hauled by 92003 "Beethoven" - this was also the last ever BR service ever after 49 years, 10 months, 20 days.
It should be noted for the record, however, that the first actual service in private operation was the 0150 Fishguard - Paddington on 4th February 1996 which was operated as far as Cardiff by an Rail Replacement Service... Somethings never changed...!
