Hi all, While I was waiting at Harrow I heard a train that didn't quite sound like an S Stock approaching, I was pleasantly surprised to see 5110 with the RAT. I managed to get a few shots of it (albeit not of great quality). Here's one of my shots: www.flickr.com/photos/127666424@N03/15272294189/

It was out earlier than that as well. I saw it passing harrow about 6.10am this morning. I only noticed as I saw an ark that was a lot brighter than normal out of the corner of my eye.

Excellent I was wondering when I'd see a proper unit on the Met again!
Looking forward to seeing and hearing it.
Question: when is it likely to run to chesham as my wife will want to know when her train is cancelled!?

To be honest, I was surprised to see it out. ~I heard a few days ago it was not in a fit state to run.

Any idea as to why it was allegedly unfit to run? Or is it not for public consumption?

Sadly, the public don't really get to consume it as such

I had noticed it had moved from the back of Neasden so assumed it was being made ready for service. The problem is both units sit there all year doing nothing! They need to be used to keep them working in order and its is therefore important for preservation in the future.

Well I had noticed that 5234 has been parked up again at the back of the depot (although I think it has been cleaned (correct me if I'm wrong))

Fab news! Was thinking about Mr A only today! Is there a timetable kicking about?

There is a new team responsible for maintaining the RAT fleet. A few days ago they were training on it in the depot (the reason why it was moved around within the depot). To put it simply, I have seen a picture of it being assisted by an s stock. I shall say no more.

What is the inside like on this train? Has it had internal modifications or does it still have the seats in place as if it had only just come out of service?

Last time I was on 5110 everything was still there.
I do hope 5234 and 5110 are ok. 5234 is especially important historically as it was the first unit in service.

I'm not sure that is quite true. It was used as part of a heritage run but that was over a year ago so it may need some internal maintenance prior to taking passengers again. Engineering stock has a nasty habit of allowing the interiors to deteriorate when not in use. You'd need to ask one if the depot team on site.

It should not cause any cancellations to Chesham services, the rat is only booked to visit Chesham in engineering hours, it is only sent in traffic hours if rail conditions become too bad for normal traffic as as the S stock generally performs better than the A stock did on slippery tracks I would not expect that to happen.

I may try photographing the RAT at some point, perhaps where the train doesn't go fast. Due to forum rules, the timings should be PM'd to me rather than made public. Thanks.

Is the Network Rail RTT out and about on the Met this year? If so, does anyone have timings of where to see it? A couple of years ago it went north though amersham at about 7.25am; used to cause raised eyebrows from the commuting masses (including me!).

I haven't seen reference to it elsewhere but there is also a Network Rail RHTT that takes in the Overground from Hackney all the way to Richmond, i.e. it takes in the District Line. Whether it is actually spraying when it reaches Gunnersbury I don't know. It seems to only reach Richmond at the weekend reversing at Willesden at other times. It starts at Broxbourne and takes in Harlow, Cambridge, Royston, Cambridge again, Broxbourne again, Hackney, Richmond, Hackney, Hertford East, Broxbourne. Click here for 2013 photo of said formation at West Hampstesd.

If the RAT was to be out in a Saturday near Christmas and members all donated some money to a suitable charity could this not this be part of the Christmas Meet this year?

The NR railhead treatment train passed NB through Chalfont & Latimer this morning at about 06.25 with its usual roar of diesel engines and hiss from the sprays. At the south end was one of the red DB-branded locos, I think.

66001 is one of only a few 66s fitted with trip cock equipment I believe along with 66017 & 66019.

Could barely tell what colour the locos were they were so filthy, but the DB one was on the back.

They get so filthy from the chemicals being "thrown up" - check this photo of a RHTT passing Kew Gardens which I posted in the Photography section recently click here
