As I sat on an 09 stock train earlier today, I found myself wondering how much it would cost to retrofit a 67ts with the necessary equipment to allow it to run on the Victoria Line as it is now. Anyone have any ideas?

Why?

Curiosity, nothing more. Obviously it wouldn't be used in revenue service and the income generated from having it as a heritage train would not cover the costs of conversion in a reasonable timescale (if at all), so just curiosity.

The signalling system was upgraded prior to 09ts introduction. In consequence the ATO gubbins on 67ts was also upgraded prior to 09ts introduction.
Therefore I see no reason why a 67ts couldn't run on the Vic today (other than most of the fleet has been scrapped and whats left won't have been maintained to be operational)!

I thought that what happened was a clever overlay of the new and existing ATO systems with common interlocking. This allowed the 67 to keep on running with it's existing equipment whilst the 09 stock ran on it's equipment. It's why there was a point when the 67 became banned north of Seven Sisters, because the existing ATO equipment was removed. Why would LU spend money upgrading a train about to be removed from service - it seems a little odd

Point taken!
What you describe above does indeed ring some bells...

It's a perfectly reasonable question because they have fitted Central Line ATP equipment to old engineering stock.

A few £100k I reckon.

The 2 ATO systems did overlay each other

The 2 ATO systems did overlay each other Yes, that's one of the reasons that the 09's spent so much time on test before entering service. I imagine it was quite a complicated situation.

It wouldn't cost a penny to run a 67 stock on the Vic right now, just stick it in slow manual, of course you would need to make sure that nothing else is running on the line! lol
