I see the connection to the long defunct Ongar branch has been given a complete revamp ready for the transfer of the cravens unit to the branch. The wild scenes of overgrown grasses have been completely cut down! This is how it looked until recently. I thought it was going by road.

Nope, LU sorting stuff out there side and helping us on part of our side of the fence, all for the Cravens move!

The Craven Unit moved by rail to Ruislip Depot this morning.

I've heard rumblings at work that the reinstatement of the connection may be of mutual benefit to both LU and the EOR. Could be an interesting development or two coming along.

Probably a crucial step towards providing access for the 1938 stock to get there, if the case for electrification gets enough backing. It depends on how the Romford branch fares under Overground management.

I was told by the signalman at North Weald a few weeks ago that both LU and the EOR were keen to extend the line to a new platform immediately east of Epping.

This raises the wishful thinking of a possible "thumper" or similar excursion down the parts of the Central line which are still of full loading gauge!

There has been a sea change in attitude by LUL and TFL to the idea of Heritage on LUL and Overground metals recently.Possibly because of the success of last year's MET 150 celebrations. Let's hope all goes well next week, for the move and push/pull of the Craven Unit on the EOR.

However the person heading the Heritage operation on LU has recently left the company, so any momentum gained could potentially be lost.....
And as for Thumpers over the Central line, I think a sense of perspective is required here. The fact that the Central runs with ATO/ATP is something that cannot be ignored and although at one time the loading gauge may have supported mainline rolling stock, that may well not be the case anymore.

If you read my post I said "wishful thinking" which is not nearly so bizarre as some of the recent proposals for "light//conecting railways etc:" which are currently floating around. There are several places which are probably not now to main-line gauge but then so is the Picadilly north of Hangar lane but only marginally so. The main one that comes to mind is the tunnel under Hollybush hill and the road system around the M 11 junctions which I believe had it's roof lowered -but may have now been partly removed/alterted fairly recently.

I did indeed read your post, including the words "wishful thinking".
Given that we have an entirely separate area on the forum for 'outside the box' idea's and suggestions, I was merely attempting to ensure that this thread, being in a sensible area of the forum, remains a sensible discussion about the realities of whats actually possible rather than drifting off into the fantasy territory which is already catered for as mentioned.

As for Heritage on the London Underground and the person who has recently left the organisation I've heard they haven't traveled very far, to the LTM to be precise. Their influence may well continue, if not their clout.

Yes it could be possible without too much wishful thinking although my sugesstion is more realistic than the ones in the cloud cuckoo =land thread.

Their influence may well continue, if not their clout. Given the circumstances surrounding their departure from LU........well lets just say we'll see how it pans out.....

Whilst I worked in the design office I was asked informally about the cost of modifying the signalling at Epping to accommodate the EOR running closer to Epping, and the provision of a level access between the two platforms.
With my tongue only slightly in cheek, I enquired how many millions were available to make it happen based on the signalling changes required!
