On the westbound platform between 1025-1030 this morning, the describer showed an Olympia service as Not in Service, then the following service as Ealing Broadway via Victoria despite being a H&C service.

The platform displays in this area cannot show Olympia - reason being that when the Olympia service does run, its only from High Street Kensington.
That being said, we temporarily have two S stock training trains which do have a number of [run as required] paths booked each weekday between Plaistow & Olympia (train 753) or Barking & Olympia (train 754). You most likely saw one of those training runs and the signallers have used the Not in Service description to remind themselves which train it is.
As for the following train being described incorrectly, there's likely to be one of two reasons; either a fault somewhere previous has seen incorrect information transmitted along the line or trains are not running in timetabled sequence. Its also possible that a train description may go missing after a SPAD but of course that isn't the norm!
The signaller at Whitechapel does have the ability to correct the misinformation (Olympia bound trains excepted!) but you may not have seen this if you boarded the H&C train.

They can change the description but this will not update the boards due to them mainly being run off Trackernet. Once the train enters the tunnel the description is passed onto Aldgate East where the site computer puts it right

That has changed then cos they used to able to update straightaway when the old back lit board was in use.

Has to be one of the most unreliable "tools" I've come across.
