I just caught a Royston bound train today and it was using Class 313s. Whilst these sometimes go to Letchworth, they normally go via Hertford. This one was going via Welwyn Garden City and over the Welwyn viaduct. It hasn't done that in many years.
Normal fare are 317s, 321s and 365s on this service

Some Hull Trains services were using a section of track in the Tottenham area to get to St Pancras, the Tottenham North Curve, that is rarely used for passenger trains.

Yes, nothing apart from 313s can go in the tunnels to Moorgate and no services could run to Kings Cross because of the works taking place AFAIK. Happened a couple of times before and I hope it happens again, as I really need to do that! Also want to do the Hull Trains service next weekend but working in retail means I have more chance of winning the lottery than getting next Sunday off to do the rare track to St Pancras!

Next Sunday all trains are running to Kings Cross except those on the Hertford Loop

Could a 508 coupled to a 313 go to Moorgate?

Could a 508 coupled to a 313 go to Moorgate? Acording to Wikipedia "The three Class 508/3 units [working for Silverlink] were modified by Alstom Eastleigh to designs provided by Interfleet Technology to make them inter-operable with Class 313 units." One can therefore infer that the rest of the class 508 fleet are not inter-operable with 313s. The 508/3s are no longer in service.

Yes, nothing apart from 313s can go in the tunnels to Moorgate Not strictly true as I believe a 73 has been down there. Is there any reason a 319 can't go there?

The current 313s are fitted with tripcocks apparently and also apparently the currently signalling system is what they used to use on the Underground. In the past some trains have had trouble entering the tunnel south of Drayton Park (or is it south of Finsbury Park) due to hitting the tunnel roof. If 319s are taller than 313s that may be another reason why they are not used.

Assuming that you took a possession of the line, and secured all the routes, then you probably could run a 508 in parallel with a 313 down to moorgate. I'm not too sure how you would get it down there, as the 508 doesn't have the pantograph and associated gubbins to work on the OLE north of the tunnel. You could drag it Dead-In-Tow, but that would wreck any timetables, but if the AC is rectified before being sent between units, then in theory it could work, but I'm not sure in what form the power goes through the coupling block!

There are certainly power connections within each units - it could hardly be otherwise given that the pantograph is on a trailer car - but I'm not sure any power goes between two coupled units, be they 313s, 508s, 4SUBs, D stock or TGVs - the only connections through the inter-unit couplings are for control and braking. If you want a make a 508 into a 313 and to operate on both ac and dc, a good start would be to swap its trailer for the pan-trailer from a 314 or 315.

Are 319s too wide as well?
