Not really sure where this belongs, to be honest, but anyway... As i am going to London on Friday and will be spotting in the Underground, my mother suggested i ask if there are any places i should avoid? Any particular stations? Streets? Anything.
Thanks in advance!

London doesn't have any "no go" areas as such, at least not in the same way as some foreign cities such as Orlando, Detroit and the like. If you want to explore the system, you should be fine. However, I wouldn't recommend staying too far from suburban stations as you may wander into residential areas of, shall we say, dubious quality. This is particularly true after dark. In any case, there is very little of interest in the vicinity of most suburban stations.

If it's during the day, I would say there aren't any really dodgy areas as long as you are sensible and remain aware of your surroundings. Late at night would be a different matter, but again that's more outside stations than within the system itself.

London covers about 600 square miles and there are plenty of places to avoid, I wouldn't be seen dead in an Angus Steak House or the Rainforest Café.
If you're coming up on Friday avoid the Tube during the morning and evening peaks, travel up after 9:30am and start back before 4:30pm

Thanks for the tips, guys!
aslefshrugged: Coming in on Friday, landing at Gatwick around 8pm. Departing on Wednesday, again from Gatwick, at about 5:40pm. However, mom has insisted we check in not two hours prior, but three.

On a Friday or Saturday night I would feel a lot safer anywhere inside the NCR / SCR than in a small provincial town.
As said already there aren't any "no go" areas in London. Some of the outer suburban centres may get a bit rowdy when the pubs close of course.

Hi
Having noted you are station spotting, among other things, might I suggest you do either the inner part of the Central Line between about 10:30 to 12 noon, and the inner part of the Piccadilly Line between 14:00 to 15:30, or vice versa? It's amazing how busy both these bits of the Underground get across lunch-time.
Any part of the Northern Line and most of the Victoria Line might be busy all the time on a weekday, but not so bad at weekends.
The only station I'd avoid is Bank, because it's cramped, always busy and the connecting passageways are a bit long in places. But you could look on it as a challenge and try & find a quiet time there!
Have fun & hope you enjoy yourselves.

Thanks for the tips. I'll try to remember that!
I might actually take you up on that challenge though as i am going to ride the W&C.

There are some areas of London where I keep my wits about me more than others, but none where I would go so far as to say I feel unsafe, at least, not areas I have ever frequented, or ever frequented by night. I have heard that the Euston Road corridor can still be "interesting" after dark, although as I said this is not an area I have ever frequented by night.
Some areas can be disorientating to me after dark, for example Covent Garden.
As others have said, the only areas of London I have ever felt unsafe are those off the tourist track, and I do not expect you will be visiting these areas.

Don't be too sure. Remember, i'm in the city to do some spotting. Though most likely, when spotting i won't stray outside the stations.

Nowhere in the daylight, certainly in Zones 1 and 2 but I'd imagine anywhere. I'd be careful about Brixton and Stockwell after dark as well as parts of Ladbrook Grove but you'd say that about any city in the world. I'm in Liverpool at the mo (I passed Rincew1nd's earlier and a very nice area it is too) and there's parts I wouldn't go there at night either. But yeah, anywhere touristy, you're absolutely fine.
Oh and Euston Road and surrounding areas is nothing compared to around the Gare du Nord in Paris which is rrrrrrrrrrrrrough.

I lived on Pentonville Road for a year. I didn't think it was all that bad myself, especially as it's quite busy around the station. Mind you, Euston Road itself, particularly around King's Cross station, used to be very perilous. They've done some very good work, though, and the road layout is now a lot safer than it was. I never used to like getting money out of the cashpoint, though, and I used to hate walking down Sidmouth Street after dark.
That said, it says a lot that there's a need for those 'Warning syringes may be present in the area' signs along the track outside King's Cross St. Pancras (towards Farringdon) and that someone I know was stopped by a police officer on her first ever visit to the area and warned to be careful!
