Hi there My mom and I are maybe going to London this autumn, and I wanted to ask: - We've got an old normal Oyster card for my mom (Adult), but am I wrong when I claim is easier to use that rather than ordering a Visitor Oyster?
- I am in the ticket category 11-15. What's best a ZIP-card (could that be shipped to Denmark? any problems regristering online then?), an Visitor Oyster with 50% discount?

As I understand it, a vistor Oyster is exactly the same as any other Oyster, unless you want to take advantage of some of the special promotions. www.tfl.gov.uk/cdn/static/cms/documents/special-offers-visitor-oyster-card.pdf ZIP cards can only be posted within the UK: if you want to apply from abroad it has to be collected from one of the five travel centres (located faitrly logically at the Underground stations at Heathrow 123*, Liverpool Street, Victoria, Kings Cross St Pancras, (thereby covering all the main arrival points into London: Victoria Coach Station, and Eurostar, and from Stansted, Gatwick and Luton airports) and Picadilly Circus. It has to be collected by the child's parent (not a problem in your case, but a showstopper if you are an excange student) *if you arrive at Terminals 4 or 5, note that it is free to travel on Heathrow Express or local buses to Terminals 123, so you can get to the Travel Centre for free. If you already have an Oyster, inter-terminal transfers are also free on the Underground, but if you already have an Oyster you won't need to visit the travel centre! The 50% "Young Adult" discount can be applied to an Oyster, but only at the same five locations. It appears you can order a child travelcard to be posted abroad (one day or 7-day, prices depend on the number of zones required), www.visitbritainshop.com/world/travel-transport/london-transport/product/london-travelcard.htmlHowever, a wider range of Travelcards is available over the counter at any tube station (if the ticket office is open!) than can be ordered on line. You probably know that cash is no longer accepted on London buses - only Oyster or contactless bank card - and two people travelling together cannot use the same card to pay their fares. Hope that helps: and that you and mum enjoy your visit.

As we're flying to Gatiwck we'll have to try to go to Victoria and then continue to Prince Regent instead of going directly to Prince Regent via London Bridge. I'll be supriced if we get to travel before 9:30, so the solutions for me are: (we are going to live nearby Prince Regent, therefore we need 1-3) TRAVELCARD OFF-PEAK DAILY ---- £3.60 x 4 = £14.40 OYSTER 50% YOUNG ADULT ------ £3.85 x 4 = £15.40 ZIP OYSTER 11-15 ---------------- £1.50 x 4 = £6.00 (+ £10.00) I think I'll go with the last option as it'll be really cheap once the fee has been paid, and it'll continue to be cheap each time I go to London. One last question: - Can I also get 50% Young Adult on a normal Oyster, or has it got to be a visitor one?
- If yes, at home we've got three Oyster cards that have all been used before without the 50% Young Adult discount. In case we go with the second option, could we then "convert" one of those to a Young Adult Oyster, or would we then have got to get a new one?
As said (or rather written) before, thanks.

The Zip card is only available to London school students Not to be rude, but are you sure about that? Can you (or anyone else) confirm whether it is true or not? The reason why I'm sceptical is that it is possible to apply if you're living outside UK - and would a London school student really do that?

As someone who went to school in Hertfordshire, not quite true. I had one valid until the September after I turned 16 despite never living or going to school in London

"Your child can get an 11-15 Zip Oyster photocard if they're: Over 10 years and 11 months Under 16 on 31 August Your child's Zip Oyster photocard is valid until 30 September, after the end of the academic year in which they turn 16." The only criteria is age, so yes www.tfl.gov.uk/fares-and-payments/students-and-children/11-15-zip-oyster-photocard is the page I am looking at, which specifically has a section titled Non-UK customers. (If you lived outside of the UK and went to a London school I would be amazed!)So for clarification, yes you can. The link above tells you more

Note: "You must apply at least four weeks before the date that you want to collect the Oyster photocard. If you're travelling to London within the next four weeks, then you'll be unable to apply for an Oyster photocard." The Oyster also costs £10 in administration fees, just in case you weren't aware

The Zip card is only available to London school students True for the 16-18 Zip card, but the 11-15 card is available to anyone. Note that it is school students resident in London, not students of London schools, who can have a 16-18 card. (so if you live in Harrow and go to school in Watford, that's ok - but if you live in Watford and go to school in Harrow, it isn't).

I was under the impression that 16-18 zips were available for all those in the age range, but only those in full time education (with proof from institution) would get the half price travel on most modes, and free travel on trams and buses

causton Yes, I know that site too, but I just want to be 110% sure because I don't want to lose £10 if I can't use for some reason. norbitonflyer What I thought. Luckily I'm not 16 yet, so it's not going to be a problem.
