Does anybody know? - When O and P stock was converted from Metadyne control equipment to PCM in the 1950s (and renumbered from 13XXX and 14XXX to 53XXX and 54XXX respectively), were the enamel plates with the car numbers inside the saloons changed to ones with the new numbers or did they keep the original (now incorrect) plates until withdrawal?
Thanks,
Greg Sargent (owner of the plate from Car 13249)

This photo shows the interior of a CO/CP car myweb.tiscali.co.uk/julesattheslade/Inside-CO-DM-D.jpgBlown up you can see that the original numberplate is absent and the new number applied as transfers. Whether this was universal, or even typical, I don't know. I do not recall seeing a car with the old number still in situ.

Certainly towards the end they had the correct numbers in place. Although many appeared to be hand-painted, possibly from the time of renumbering?

The one in the picture appears to have transfers. Did the hand-painted versions simply have a "5" painted over the "1" on the original enamel plate?
