What is the procedure for an oyster card refund. I asked because last month I cancelled the prepay money off my card but I still have the card.
I was not given a receipt for the transaction because I was told I'd only get one if I cancelled the money and deposit.
I phoned the helpline about why my refund was taking so long and have just received an email asking for a copy of a receipt to process my application. I do not have any receipt but I sent them my journey history and also made copies of this.
What should I do as next step, it was a lot of money that seems to of gone missing.

(x lots) "Refunds of pay as you go credit can be processed at Tube station ticket offices."

It's not clear to me what you mean by "cancelled the prepay money off my card". What precisely did you do and how did you do it? I've always understood that refunds are done at LU ticket offices and you should be asked if you wish to surrender the Oyster Card and thus be refunded the card deposit or retain the card but with a zero balance / no ticket on it. Further is your card registered with TfL or is it anonymous? - I think that might have a bearing on the refund procedure.

I had an Oyster card with £50 on it.
At the ticket office I asked to have the prepay refunded to me, but to leave the card active in case I want to use it in the future.
The assistant removed the money from my card and told me I should have a cheque sent to my house within 3-5 days.
My card is registered both online and also through filling out an application form.

being ex stations but not ticket office I can remember that if card balance is a mixture of cash/debit card that refunds can't just be given out as cash so a cheque would be sent from LUL

In my case, I cancelled the pre-pay amount at the station, and was told to call up in a weeks time on a free number, which I duly did, confirmed my Bank Account Number, and the refund was paid by BACS in a couple of days.

Thanks - I'm not an expert on refunds but I would strongly suggest you call the Oyster Help Line and ask them what is going on. I assume your on line account info shows the balance was reduced as you requested and shows when / where this happened?

Well a bit of an update, I was told that I'd have to wait for a cheque at my last phone call, however the advisor today told me not cheque has been processed so would I accept a back transfer
So fingers crossed I get the money in my account soon
