Hi, something our dear admin, Dstock7080 mentioned on another thread (here) reminded me there was something I meant to ask.
Platform 2 is of course the outer rail/eastbound platform at High Street Kensington. There is also a crossover and a wrong-road starter ED12 with route indicator. Obviously all the necessary equipment is in place for reversing wrong road off platform 2.
When ED12 clears with a straight green, I understand that the route is cleared for the inner rail Circle towards Gloucester Road. The train would proceed over the crossover - essentially turning left - and head on to Gloucester Road. (For more information and a diagram see Dave's post on the main site here.)
Now, what I really wanted to ask about is the District reversing east to west and heading back to Earl's Court. For this move I understand that the (h)arbour lights illuminate pointing to the right. Am I right in thinking that what happens is the train then goes left (over 13 points) and then right (over 6 points) onto the westbound and up to ED1740 (see more). Or does it actually go straight on over 13 points and right over 22 points and then gain the westbound using 157 points. To me, it looks like 157 points are only used for moves into triangle sidings and seem to be controlled exclusively by shunt signal ED171/172. This of course makes the former the most likely option, but I wanted to make sure, because I always found it slightly bizarre that the train would receive a route indicator pointing right only to proceed left (although, admittedly, then right). Not that there's anything wrong with that of course! I just wanted to check I had it the right way around, because I've always been left scratching my head at High Street. I find it quite an interesting - but busy, complex - area to the uninitiated. There are more complex areas of course, but the problem with triangle sidings is that you can't see very much, what with them being covered. At least at, say, HOTH (the Met station, not the planet in Star Wars ) you can get a good look out of the window
