This is a bit of a long shot and I'm not sure if this is really the place to ask, but I thought I'd have a go and see if there're any OpenBVE users who can help.
I've been having some problems with lag, particularly with one newer route which is very detailed and impressive, but very very heavy and I think asking a bit much of the software.
So, anyway, I was just wondering if anybody knew if there're settings I should select in the options tab that might make it run a little bit faster or a little bit smoother because right now the lag is astonishing and selecting the low CPU option (F12) and the one that turns backface culling off (F11) doesn't really have any effect, although turning backface culling off butchers the graphics.
For your information, I'm not sure what my laptop's specs are but it's on its last legs and wasn't particularly inspiring to begin with. I probably need to think about sorting something out for when this laptop actually dies but in the meantime I was wondering if there were any settings that would make OpenBVE a little lighter and that might make it run a little better.
Thanks.

You could try lowering the draw distance, or changing the texture filtering to a lower setting on the settings page of the launch screen. PS. Happy birthday

Thank you (on both counts) I'll have a little tweak and see if I can't get a slightly smoother run
