Noticed at East Finchley that some ugly concrete walls have sprung up by both NB and SB platform staircases, spoiling the open airy nature of the platforms at this point. I did not notice any planning or listed buililding application (but then again, have not bee outside the station).
a) what is going on... lifts per chance? b) how did they get consent to modify this listed building without people making a fuss? c) are they any plans or drawings for the work that is underway.
I must admit to being annoyed when they retiled the station with clearly incorrect tiles (the cream ones have grainy dots on them, as opposed to the smooth colour at Highgate (tiles a much beter match, but in both cases grout line is far too wide and the tiles are, I suspect, metric rather than imperial size)... OT!!
Any gen out there?

The reason I think it might be this is because the work is in exactly the right place for this, and it would be one of life's little unfortunates that the relevant position is immediately adjacent to the stairwells. Having said that, East Finchley is not a step-free station, so I'm unsure why here would be prioritised for the work, but it's the best explanation I can come up with -- unless anyone knows different.

Indeed they are in the right position for platform ramps. Furthermore, in the last few days ramps have indeed appeared on the SB (tube) platform (although the ramps are wood board). However, the atual stone part of the ramp at maximum 'train height' is a single platform edge stone (so about 2ft?). Furthermore, the peak of the ramp sits squarely between a set of doors.
I don't understand what is going on here. Most odd... will watch with bemused interest! And again, why was this not thought about when the station was retiled a few years ago. Unless they have spare tiles that exactly match, it is going to look horrid. Lack of integrated planning?
