Oh yeah, thrilling! I'm doomed not to get my flight from terminal 5 next week!

RMT are on strike so it's the guards and station staff, the drivers are in ASLEF.

Are there no longer any drivers in the RMT? I’m 99.9% sure that the only place where RMT has drivers is on the Tube, everywhere else drivers are in ASLEF. Apparently this is because a lot of guards retrained as drivers when the Tube went OPO but rather than switching unions they stayed in RMT.

It depends very much on location - on the Northern Line for example High Barnet, Golders Green and East Finchley depots are majority ASLEF, whilst Morden is majority RMT. I think the Piccadilly Line is also an RMT stronghold. This is why during RMT strikes you will tend to see the Northern running comparatively more trains than some other lines.

Very true but overall on the Tube drivers are roughly two third ASLEF and one third RMT whereas on the mainline they are all ASLEF

I remember Dave Goulder singing the "Eight Freight Blues" and saying how his driver wouldn't talk to him "since he'd found I'd joined the NUR while he was an ASLEF man". The NUR was a 'railway' union whereas ASLEF was aimed at those on the footplate ( Associated Society of Locomotive Engineers and Firemen). That said, I'm sure I have seen drivers around here with RMT lanyards and/or tie pins.

rincew!nd - interesting, which TOC were they working for? Are you sure they were drivers and not guards?

Northern I think, possibly TPE. I'd hope they were a driver's, and I was getting off trains they'd just driven!
It is possible I'm mistaken, but I'm pretty sure they were the green and gold oval RMT badges.

Not a fan of probably the most expensive commuter rail journey on the planet! It's an ill wind I guess the Piccadilly Line will be busier or are they on strike at the same time?
