Can anyone go into a little detail regarding the planned engineering works taking place in the Ealing Common area over the Easter weekend?
The letter I received states the replacement of points and track as well as drainage work.
I'm curious to know which points are to be replaced, those coming out of the depot or those where the Picc and District split (can't remember the name of the junction).
Many thanks

Many thanks Hanger Lane junction points were relaid to flat-bottomed a few years ago. During the Easter weekend (from 2045 Thursday actually) all the pointwork leading into Ealing Common depot from both WB & EB tracks will be replaced with flat-bottomed and the curvatures eased where possible. Pointwork for 32road (immediately behind EComm EB platform) will be removed and 32Rd decommissioned.

All the powered points are Ealing Common Station and Ealing Common Depot (Ealing end only) are going to be replaced by lovely Surelocks and of course the whole lot will be Flat Bottom rails. They are being preped at Beeston and they will then be cranned in like the replacement points at Ruislip a few weeks ago. It starts basically from close of traffic next Thursday and it will be non-stop work until the Tuesday morning. Atleast it should be abit quieter for the residents once done as no more air worked points. And as Dstock7080 rightly says the road behind the platform is also going as it is already been decommissioned many years ago with the fuses for the track removed long ago as well as Z15 points also clipped scotched and plated.

Why is that road being decommissioned? Is it to short for S stock to stable in, or are there other matters at play?

Correct too short plus the track bed at the moment is not too healthy. Plus if memory serves me right they could only hold a 3 car D stock for shunting back into the depot but again I could be wrong on that one

That's a shame, I can hear the points from my flat when the window is open. If I am on Early Relief shifts, the sound of the points and the first couple of empties off the depot are my second alarm clock. It starts basically from close of traffic next Thursday and it will be non-stop work until the Tuesday morning. District Ealing services are suspended west of Turnham Green after 2105 on Thursday, the last westbound service to call at Ealing Common at 2113. Eastbound services are reduced to operating from Ealing Broadway to Ealing Common depot after 1900. The last passenger service being 2109 from Ealing Broadway. From Thursday night until Monday night some District trains scheduled to reverse at Gunnersbury at the extremes of the day. On Tuesday the first eastbound train from Ealing Broadway will be at the later time of 0538, the first 4 train departures replaced by replacement bus.

RE: the recent use of Ealing Broadway by picc; trains , I have noticed in several of the photos published here and on other sources that platform 8 and I think 9 at EB seem to reduce to approx: tube height at the outer ends. This is noticable in the picture of a train in platform 8 taken from the outer end. Is there any particular reason for this?
