Hi all,
Just wondering, when the 1996 stock entered service, at the time, with not so many stock required for full service as the line went only to charing x, was the 1983 stock replaced immediately or was there a period of dual operation between the two? if so does anyone have any pictures of the two together?

There was a period of dual operation, although only for a few months. Once the 83 stock had been replaced, a lot of the remaining 96 stock deliveries went to Stratford, ready for the extension to open the following year.

Until the the extension opened fully the line operated in 2 sections Stratford-Waterloo & Charing X-Wembley/Stanmore.They used to changeover a train between the sections around once a week.A train was taken from Neasden to Westminster and left there then 2 Schoma locos would go from SMD in engineering hours go to Westminster and tow it back to SMD,the next night the move would be done in reverse with another train.

I have a booklet which was issued to staff for the transfer of the stock.

As already stated by others both stocks ran along side each other for a period of time. I do have some photos but am new to the site so not sure how to post them at the moment.

Pictures would be good, especially of 96ts at Charing Cross in the early days of the stock / last days of the Jubilee service to those platforms.
Was there ever a time when both the extension and Charing Cross were served from Stanmore, or was it one day Stanmore/CX and Stratford-Waterloo, and the next day Stanmore/Stratford?
sunking800, I've PM'd you with a couple of links that may be useful.

I can't be sure now but I think all the 83's were gone by the time through running to Stratford started, the 83's were incompatible with the extension. It may have been possible for Wembley Park crews to run 83's to Green Park and empty to Charing Cross whilst 96's ran through to Stratford but I don't think this ever happened. I am not sure I have any photos of 96's in service at Charing Cross www.flickr.com/photos/51148546@N05/5158226225/in/set-72157625340703996/player/edited by admin (seaeagle) to show correct link

The 83 stock were all withdrawn around a year before the first part of the extension opened (Stratford to North Greenwich). Charing Cross remained open until through running began - there was never an overlap.

Yes, thanks Superteacher, that is what I thought. Memory is fading so I was not 100%.

Wow, that's the only photo I've ever seen with the two different stocks side-by-side. Looking at the trees in the background I'd say that's mid-late April. By which time the TS83 had about 2 months of service left.

Was as the LT Museum Depot at Acton on Saturday.
Looking at the 83 stock car they have there reminded me how narrow the doors were.

Yes I think the door width was a major factor in them going.
