The comment in the link in the above post suggests that the Chicago system is not as well protected as LU from driver error.
It seems to imply that there is no non-driver action in the event of a SPAD.
Is this correct?

Not sure about that system to be honest. Speaking in LUL terms the terminal road protection also known as 'Moorgate Protection' should have prevented this sort of thing taking place in London.

I thought one of the articles said that the train entered at it's normal speed, but then didn't slow down and mounted the platforms. If 'moorgate protetction' was in use, it might not have helped, The fixed trainstop would have helped, but only if there was enough overlap after the trainstop to prevent the platform mounting
