I notice that the facing edges of the lateral seats are already becoming threadbare, presumably from the squalid habits of those who put their feet up on the seats.
How soon will they have to be reupholstered?

I remember hearing they'd start to go through a "refurbishment" when the s7s are all delivered

The hooligans from Metroland need teaching a lesson. If these lateral seats keep getting ruined because some slob can't keep his or her plates off I can see LUL changing all the seats to longitudinal like the rest of the train. No one has legs long enough to reach them. Problem solved.........

By refurbishment, I suspect they mean "refresh" ie- reupholstering, new lights, cleaning out the A/C filters, possibly new wheelsets etc. But bear in mind that the oldest production S8s will be about 5 years old, and 21099/21100 will have existed for almost 6 years! At least they will be getting attention, unlike some tube stock which is left to it for 30 years and then done up and set off by itself again. A proper mid-life refurbishment won't happen until about 2030 - 2040. The hooligans from Metroland need teaching a lesson. If these lateral seats keep getting ruined because some slob can't keep his or her plates off I can see LUL changing all the seats to longitudinal like the rest of the train. No one has legs long enough to reach them. Problem solved......... In which case, can the district get the S8s for working a new Wimbledon to Upminster via Liverpool Street service, and giving the S7s to Metroland [/RIPAS]

The build quality generally seems poor, with a lot of rattling already in many cars, and failing driver PAs. Unless Norman Collier is driving for the Met these days.m

Hope the A/C filters are being cleaned more frequently than suggested above.

I suspect that they are cleaned out a bit more frequently than my post guesses at, but at "refreshbiment" I'd imagine that the whole unit comes out of the roof and gets a thorough clean, filters, tubing, top-ups etc. But I'm just guessing

Looking at pictures, it looks like the AC system is modular, or at least easily removed from the roof, much like electrostar units on NR. Haven't seen such work in action however so unable to confirm. On that note, now that most of the old stock (minus D and some C stock) has gone, I think the presence of brake dust will decrease dramatically, so too will the rate of needing to clean the filters. Just something that makes sense to me.

Nevertheless, the build quality is inherently not up to scratch. That's my opinion anyway.

How soon will they have to be reupholstered? I note that there are not even windows stickers to "Keep feet off seats" as there were on A stock. Then again, probably the 'scrotes who usually are common offenders can't read anyhow... (and everyone else has their head in their mobile phone to notice any stickers)

I seem to remember that part of the "enabling works" were mods to Neasden depot, in particular equipments to enable the AC modules to be lifted out; I'm sure prjb could confirm but I suspect he's busy with converting the Green Line.
