Was on a southbound service which developed a defect at Old Street. Boarded the next service which picked up passengers at Moorgate and then wouldn't stop until Elephant & Castle where the doors wouldn't open and the train op announced he couldn't open the doors due to the ATO not allowing him to.
Why isn't their an override feature which would have saved a lot of distress from some of my fellow passengers. It's at times like this I'd rather have manual operation.

In theory, the t/op could have put the train into protected manual, which I think would have allowed them to get a door release. However, this would probably require all sorts of faf such as contacting the line controller &c

So... how did they skip the intervening stations if they were in full ATO? On-board automated CIS announcements were made mentioning that the train wouldn't stop at the next stop, through each station, the unit travelled at 5mph through each stop. The unit didn't come to a stop until Elephant & Castle where as I mentioned, the option to open the doors wasn't available to the driver. I suspect the station skip option was meant for the defective unit in front, however I'm sure the investigation will find out the truth.

However, this would probably require all sorts of faf such as contacting the line controller &c That wouldn't work in this scenario. It is not ATO that is preventing door opening it is TBTC (i.e. it affects PM mode as well). An emergency override is available of course (no need to call the controller). To avoid extended speculation let me just say the TBTC system responded safely and in exactly the expected way in the circumstances it was presented with. There are overrides which could have been used. OP - I'm sorry your journey was delayed (assuming you wanted to get off before Elephant).

OP - I'm sorry your journey was delayed (assuming you wanted to get off before Elephant). I was attempting to go to London Bridge. I was slightly delayed, having to return on a northbound service, but otherwise ok. A customer charter refund application has gone in however.

Ooh! The Standard's coverage should be spectacular, then!
