I will be honest and say I didn't like the man, but I hope members will show respect and avoid trite and inappropriate comments

It's quite a shock. Condolences to his friends and family. Love or loathe him, he was one of a kind, and hopefully not the last.

Like Jimmy Knapp before him, Bob kept the spirit of socialism going and provided a robust counterpoint to the right-leaning politics of modern times. Regardless of my more liberal leanings I believe that this country needs people like Bob Crow to ensure that workers' rights remain in the spotlight. A very sad loss for his family, friends, his members and the United Kingdom. Rest in peace big fella.

Sad news.
I have to say I'm stunned how low some people will go. To say that the comments on social media and other forums have been distasteful is a gross understatement! Nobody, regardless of occupation, should be subjected to comments like the ones that are appearing on other forums and social media!

52 is no age to die. None of the media reports I have seen mention any illness, so this must be a terrible shock for his family.
RIP Bob Crow.

RIP Bob.
While I may not have agreed with him about everything, he stood firm to what he believed in and fought for those he represented.
My condolences to his family and friends.

Indeed... like or loathe, you have respect the man for working tirelessly hard for his members... Boris, who is blind to many things IMO, even had good things to say... RIP Bob

RIP Bob Like others I may not have agreed with him, but his ability to fight for his members was superb. I can only hope for the sake of the members of the rmt, that the new leader is as good as Bob when it comes to supporting their members. Inevitably, some politician will try and hijack this event for the wrong reasons. Requiescat in pace

That's the thing about a heart attack, you can seem perfectly fit and it can come out of the blue.

According to BBC reports, he was on Radio 4 the previous evening, right as ninepence. He was attended to at Whipps Cross Hospital during the early hours but they were unable to save him.
One of the last great union leaders who did what he was paid to do, fight for his members' rights.
RIP Bob Crowe.

I fully agree with what others have said. He was controversial, sometimes provocative, but only because he was passionate about his role. The world would be a boring place if everyone agreed all of the time.
RIP Bob, and condolences to his family and friends.

I never met Bob and didn't like some of what he did or stood for but I will always appreciate that it was due to him and others before him that I was able to retire from Tube Line after many years as a well paid, not particularly skilled, train maintainer and receive a good pension.
Thank you Bob - you will be a hard act to follow.

He could (and did) upset people, but the fact the RMT grew stronger, bucking the trends, under his leadership proves he was very good at what he did. He's left a very strong legacy and will be next to impossible to follow.
RIP Bob.
