Not as part of the regular service pattern, but some trains will terminate there after the peaks for stabling.

Not as part of the regular service pattern, but some trains will terminate there after the peaks for stabling. in the current timetable on Monday to Friday, only 2 trains are booked to terminate at Golders Green. Most trains stabling in Golders Green depot now run in service to Edgware, then empty from there back to Golders Green. In days gone past, reversing at Golders Green was very common during the off peak (mostly trains from Kennington via the Charing Cross branch), and there were a few trains that terminated there after the peak prior to stabling in the depot. There were also trains which terminated at Hampstead, from where they ran directly into Golders Green depot.

On a similar note, are there any scheduled trains terminating at Archway? Occasionally at approx 1600 I have caught one terminating there - I wondered if it might be a scheduled working prior to the peaks, as when we reached Archway a couple of attendants were on hand to help the driver tip out. Of course, it could well just be a short turn to get things back to time before the peak and the station staff were on the ball.
Today I caught a Kennington via Bank - quite a rarity!

I don't believe there are any scheduled Archway reversers in the current timetable. I still remember the days when there were scheduled reversers at Archway, Finchley Central, Colindale, Golders Green and Tooting Broadway. There was a timetable which had Kennington reversers from the Bank branch, but this was the exception.

Which means it can't use the turning loop. It would have to use the dead end siding between the S/B & N/B lines

I got a train which terminated at East Finchley... from the North, which must be rare surely? Ran into the middle southbound platform, then up again north, from where I thought it was just heading back to Barnet, but from there it reversed into the middle northbound platform, and then started in service again East Finchley - Barnet! Was odd to see, might have been something to do with the ATO as it was when the auto was quite new in that section! Not a driver training trip or anything as there was only one driver...

A few trains at the end of traffic terminate at East Finchley then head into the depot but I agree, trains reversing there are unusual. The move you described is the only way trains can reverse south to north at East Finchley station. The first time you saw it head north, it was running into the reversing siding, from where it can return south into the other middle platform, from where it can head north. The only other way to reverse south to north is via the depot itself. There is a trailing crossover north of the station, which can also be used to reverse trains from north to south via the main running line. This is because the reversing siding is only accessible from the middle platforms. The somewhat odd arrangements at East Finchley are a legacy of the planned extensions from the 1930's, which would have seen the middle platforms used as a through line to and from Moorgate via Finsbury Park.

I observed precisely the same move the other day, a train from Barnet turning at East Finchley and going back north. There had been severe delays earlier, although an ostensible good service was running by that point. I thought perhaps it might have been caught up in the earlier delays and was now so late that it was effectively dropping the trip between East Finchley - Kennington - East Finchley and would pick it up at the correct time going north. (This was early afternoon weekday, so a missing train would not cause so much hassle).

Today I caught a Kennington via Bank - quite a rarity! Indeed! There was a recent weekend when all Bank trains reversed via Kennington siding, due to engineering work between Kennnington and Morden.
