I have been using these on visiting London recently, but have heard there are plans to stop these, is this true? Day tickets are still available in both peak and off peak versions. The most recent change has seen a reduction in the range of zonal combinations that are available for off peak tickets - now only zones 1-6 and 1-9. The 1-2 and 1-4 versions were withdrawn in the 2014 Fares Revision which was implemented a few weeks ago. Peak and Off Peak daily caps on Oyster PAYG are still available in Z12, Z14, Z16 and Z19 versions. These are cheaper than the equivalent One Day paper tickets. I have not seen any official statement that has confirmed there is a policy of withdrawing paper one day tickets. The reason for the differential prices is apparently because the Train Companies want to encourage a shift towards Oyster ticketing as it is cheaper than paper tickets. A bit ironic given the years of delay to implementing Oyster on many National Rail services in Greater London.

Thank you vey much, I must say as a casual visitor to London, I would prefer not to use the Oyster Card, much prefer the travel card, I feel I know where I`m up to with that one

If you have a Network Railcard, the One Day Travelcard is cheaper than Oyster at weekends - £5.90 as opposed to £8.50 Oyster cap.

The paper travelcard is good as there is no OSI/time limit/same-station exit issues to worry about, no remembering to look for standalone validators (almost forgotten many times ) and it is all paid for in one go. I have a YP Railcard which allows me to get a Off-peak Z1-6 One Day Travelcard for £5.90. I also have the YP linked to my Oyster so I get a 1/3 off PAYG and cap on trains during off-peak (leading to a single off-peak journey anywhere between Z2-6 costing just £1, cheaper than a bus journey ). That paper travelcard is also valid in the evening peak, whereas Oyster charges peak fares at that time so it can work out cheaper with paper. At uni I'm across the road from a DLR station so have easy access to paper tickets, except that I can't seem to find the option for a YP discounted one day travelcard on the DLR TVMs (there is an option for the Network/Disabled/Friends&Family railcards).

Thank you very much for that, I`m still a little confused over the London ticketing system, it seems to have changed so much since I was last there in the 80`s. My son has recently bought an house in the home counties so I tend to book from there and they add on the travel card as I book my London return ticket

Thanks very much for that, it all sounds a little complicated to me though, I`m on a senior railcard and buses are free for me at my age of course
