At about 19.30 this evening, travelling westbound on a Metropolitan line train, we passed something small and red going eastbound, between Euston Square and Kings Cross, which I can only assume was the LT museum's 1938 tube train. What was it doing there?

From what I can gather, it was having a jolly via Tower Hill and Baker St.

38TS ran Ealing Common-Tower Hill-Victoria-Paddington-Edgware Road-Kings Cross-Tower Hill-Ealing Broadway-Ealing Common - but only Tower Hill-Kings Cross was actually with passengers.
I'm just processing my pictures, I'll post a link soon!

I passed it when I was coming into Acton at the end of the first half of my duty. I wondered what it was up to - cheers

I appeared at Baker Street purely by chance around 19:15 last night just as it was arriving. Knowing the people involved with it, the tour was related to the London Transport Museum and those who support it.

The trip was indeed for Patrons and Sponsors of the LTM, being shown what the museum gets up to. They were picked up from Tower Hill and delivered to a function at King's Cross.

Certainly beats the usual Routemaster! In that case, I might look into becoming an LTM sponsor, if it brings the possibility of trips like this.

Hmmm. I saw it going Eastbound at 1850 at St James's Park and it had a lot of passengers on it then? It obviously did more than Tower Hill to Kings cross, or did it do more than one complete loop?

These were representatives of the large corporate sponsors, not your average museum friend.

test train crew (did not stop to pick up at stations)
it was a junket for fundraising. One of many if successful, and the museum gets its way.
