Hi all, I recently stumbled upon this image of a Railcycle Inc. railbike being ridden on some LU track: ( source) The description of the image: I found some further information here: All aboard: Railcycle is on the right track Idaho firm sells bikes to London UndergroundI have a few questions that perhaps some of you knowledgable people may be able to answer - Where was that picture taken?
- What became of the trial?
- Do any of them still exist?
I'm also curious to see more photos, as that one is not the best of quality Thanks

They're nothing new.
Have a look at this at around 3:40 into the film...

Please please do not let Boris see this. Why Not??!! Just re-gauge his bike to run on the rails with the "white bits" underneath.

The picture was definately taken in London Road Depot.
What became of the trial - nothing, too many adjustments had to be made on the railbikes to take into account curves, track cant etc. In other words every time a curve was encountered the railbike had to be adjusted otherwise on some curves it would had toppled over and as the Bakerloo has a lot of curves some being of a very sharp radius, the railbikes were deemed no good. I believe that there were discussions on if the railbike should be classed as a train and as it would be used in engineering hours it would need a possession. I don't think the discusssons went any further after the railbike was found to be impracticable.
Last time I saw them there were 3 stored in London Road Depot gathering dust, this was about 6 years ago.

My memory of them is the same as Bruce's; sitting in London Road depot with flat tyres covered in dust. I wouldn't be too surprised to hear they haven't moved.

They may have been disposed of by now. There was a big clean up in London Road Depot a few years back when everything that was no longer wanted was disposed of, this included staff's work & personal belongings that were stored in large plastic crates.

Why does that not surprise me? There are times I miss the Bakerloo then I think about how filthy the tunnels were, and how it changed from hot to cold in seconds epending on where you were in the pipe, and think leaving may not have been a bad thing after all.

My understanding is that Gary was also behind the 1972 Mk1 set that was in London Road, as a way of transporting plant and staff to worksites.
