I've been working on a little project over the last ten days. It is a conversion of a Dapol ex-Airfix LMS non corridor coach which is being converted into a 7 comp T stock trailer of 1931-32 build. Below is the latest update of the project.... Here is the start of the project. The coach is too long with 8 compartments and needs to be measured and cut. There was left a gap of 9.5mm between each comp. The door handles and grab rails have also been removed. www.flickr.com/photos/25182511@N08/11150634696/Below are the remaining 7 compartments ready to be reassembled. www.flickr.com/photos/25182511@N08/11150838746/The panels are glued with superglue or poly cement and a thin piece of plastic card behind to make the joint hard. The tops of the vents over doors have been rounded (although not the doors as this was too much even for me!). www.flickr.com/photos/25182511@N08/11150905244/Having filed the ends clean it was easier to glue a sheet of 0.25mm plastic sheet to the ends and trim to fit this creates a flat clean surface on these plain end cars. www.flickr.com/photos/25182511@N08/11150775744/The completed and filled body. This took about 10 separate filling attempts to get the thing smooth. This is a mid stage view. A thin spray will reveal any defects, of which there were many!! www.flickr.com/photos/25182511@N08/11150818684/

Did you have this all done before - or have you done that work during the day?

This is the work over about 10 days!
Not bad for me, it's usually a year for each coach!

I take it you had to adjust the length of the compartments otherwise it would have been easier to cut along the door shut lines and save yourself all that filling and rubbing down.

That's right. The coach was a composite so it differed in distance between the comps. The 7 comp T stock cars had quite a lot of room between the compartments.

Quality work as ever. Will this lead to a kit or is it just a 'selfie'? ;-)

The undercoat is on. I've started to use grey as it covers better and my Games Workshop Chaos black spray can get attacked a little by the Molotow Belton sprays I also use so Halfords undercoat is a winner. The torpedo vents have also been added. www.flickr.com/photos/25182511@N08/11607553636/

Nice work for the driving cars have a look at using a Dapoll/Hornby B set for the non paneled cars as the ends are very similar in shape to the cabs.

Nice work metman. Am well frustrated that I can only do minimal work at the mo' as the house is on the market, and I've had to dismantle part of layout and workspace to show the full potential of the room.

Rubbish, leave it all up so any prospective buyer can either appreciate how much space their is for their railway or up their offer and ask for yours to be included in the sale of the house!

Vey nice work metman. Not sure if you've decided on a power unit for your 6 car set? I have an Endo in my 4 car Q stock and it's really powerful - much better than Tenshodo. I've not tried the Replica motorised chassis as even the shorter one is too long for Underground stock. (Ref the layout - IF we get the place we're after I'll have a 16' x 10' room which is larger than present. I'm struggling with whether to redo the present layout or go for something like a simplified Rickmansworth-esque layout. The real Ricky would need about 32' in 4mm and I have only 16' but going for this would allow more of my mainline BR stuff to have reason for being there! Either way, because of the relative dimensions I'd have to cut up some of the baseboards for the move and then rebuild)

I wish you good luck with the move then.
The power will come from a metal T stock motor car with two black beetles. The other motor car will be no powered. I find black beetles the best way to power a 6 car train.
