As I sped though Ealing Broadway on a class 180 yesterday afternoon @ 15:00 I noted a Piccadilly Line 73 stock train leaving a District Line platform at Ealing Broadway. Does anyone know what this working was and if was a training run for the proposed District Line partial suspension over the Christmas period?

Apart from any special workings / tours. I know that a 73TS went on a tour above ground, and it went through Earls Court P2 (and then possibly High Street Kensington). Dstock7080 has a photo of the train in P2 here, and it's only because of this photo that I know of this trip! I'm sure he can elaborate...

This one ran from Heathrow to Olympia via High Street Kensington. It ran in service between Earl's Court and Olympia.

that's would be first time the tube stock runs to High street kensington station I presume you mean the 73's specifically? Piers Connor in his "The 1938 Tube Stock"(page 88) says it was common when trains were transferred from the Northern to the Piccadilly, that they were the 'wrong way 'round'. They were turned by using the Kensington triangle, then to South Kensington, reversed and off to Northfields. If you haven't got this book, get it, brilliant pictures and full of information. Did you know it was proposed to extend the Bakerloo to Dartford? "...Camberwell to Peckham Rye, surface to join the SR to Nunhead & Lewisham. It would take over the lines to Dartford via Bexleyheath."

Anyone grab any pics? Especially of the High Street Ken/Earl's Court District/West Kensington bit?

Can confirm it was for the upcoming engineering works. Also T400 was reversed at HSK as the reversing point at West Ken was out of Commission. We operated along the East & Westbound local for OPO checks for the Picc to run down the local. I was lucky enough to be the District I/Op chosen to pilot T400. Hope the info helps.

Sometimes when a 67TS came back from Hainault to Northumberland Pk it was wrong way round and a move was arranged to reverse it via Piccadilly & High St Ken then back to Northumberland Pk.

38TS ran a special via HSK in about 1972 or 73. I was pilot guard from Tower Hill to Aldgate East but forgot to get off until the tour ended at Baker Street several hours later...I really must post my pic of a C69 at Ebdy Central Line!

In the interests of clarity, I have merged the posts from this thread relating to the Picc covering services to Ealing Broadway over the Christmas Holiday period, into the thread on the Piccadilly Line board. Thanks David
