This morning, I was on a train from Harrow to Aldgate.
As we got closer to Baker Street, we were informed that there was a broken down train in front of us at the platform 3 in Baker Street (heading towards London).
We waited a little bit, before going into platform 2. A few confused heads including mine, before we head off for the city!
Is this move done often?

sounds like single tracking around broken down train - its not unsual route for it but shows a abitlty to do it

Platform 2 to the city is not an unusual move during disruption particularly with a defective train in three it allows trains to get on the move between finchley road and baker

It is not a move done often by us and there is no timetabled train for the move, but it is useful for us to get around trains stuck on Platform 3 for whatever reason.
We do have timetabled moves that route us into Platform 2 to reverse. If we were going to continue on into the City, we simply accept a clear signal from the Wrong Road Starter on Platform 2.
It's a fairly easy move to do. In terms of what we see as drivers, rather than receiving a green signal at MB4B (which would take us to MB5, and then on into Platform 3), we would receive a green signal with harbour lights at 45 degrees to take us into Platform 2. Having then berthed Platform 2, we would wait for the Wrong Road Starter MB15 to clear, which would take us over a few sets of points and back onto the eastbound road into the City.

I remember jumping onto what I thought was a northbound A Stock train just as the doors were closing, only to head towards the City!

It's a move that they would rather not do, as it means holding up both the eastbound and westbound H&C and Circle lines. Still, it is useful in times of disruption.

As I've often said, it's a shame that the S-N crossover was removed as the defective train in plat 3 must either reverse via Baker St Jn or go to the city with a chance of further delays

I don't know why it was removed in the first place though.

I've heard that too but I don't know why it was removed either! Due to extending platform at north end.

It was all done a little last minute and the option to replace the scissors further up was not really an option?

Due to extending platform at north end. I wonder why only 2 out of the 4 platforms needed extending Platforms 1,2 3 & 4 at Baker Street Met are two island platforms , in fact both were extended for the S stock.
