Apologies if this has been asked before, but what leads to signage to/at closed stations being left in situ? Watford West & Croxley Green are probably famous examples, but a Croydon friend tells me that there are still signs directing people to Waddon Marsh. How common is it?

As long as there are no H&S implications why bother?

Waddon Marsh is a bit different as there is a tramway stop called Waddon Marsh but it's a couple of hundred yards from the site of the original station (halt actually but let's not split hairs). So if there are street signs pointing to Waddon Marsh station now they might be directing people the wrong way. On the other hand, if they are pointing in the right direction then that's ok. Maybe that's why they got left there?

There was up until a roundel up at wood lane central line wasn't there?
Similar also but aren't there still signs up on the eastern end of the H&C still referring to the line as the metropolitan line. I know I've seen photos of this but I'm unsure if they're still in situ

Into the 1990s there was still a street sign at the site of British Museum Station pointing pedestrians towards Holborn.

The new signalling will also make new displays possible and next 3 trains info visible.

Is it Finsbury Park where one of the line diagrams still shows the Aldwych branch.

Euston Square has got Circle line and Metropolitan line roundels on the platform, but no Hammersmith and City

Euston Square has got Circle line and Metropolitan line roundels on the platform, but no Hammersmith and City The frieze runs were going to be changed last year but there is too much hardware in the way to do it at reasonable cost. Will probably change with the new entrance/exit at the Euston end.

I have convinced myself that I remember there being a BR double arrow sign outside Southfields station until ownership passed to LUL in the 1990's, despite the fact that BR itself had never run any regular services from Southfields. I can't find any photos though. Can anyone confirm or deny what I think I recall?

The three "Intermediate" stations (East Putney,Southfields,Wimbledon Park) had BR signs. The one I am most familiar with (East Putney) had a magnificent enamelled sign across the front in LT and BR(S) colours and the platform totems were BR(S) green-and-white when I was at school in the area.

The platform indicators at several stations at the east end of the H&C still show Metropolitan line and suggest changing at Aldgate East for Hammersmith when showing District line trains. If it does, it's very misleading - staying on the District has always been a much quicker way to get to Hammersmith!

Passed through Liverpool Street today and noticed the North-East entrance to the Central Line from the main concourse has a sign directing people for the Hammersmith & City and Circle Lines to the entrance "opposite Railtrack platforms 5 to 7".

There is a sign at Charring Cross advising that when the forecourt entrance is closed that access to the underground is from the "Railtrack concourse".

The new display at West Ham shows change at Aldgate East for Hammersmith via King's Cross. No longer true given the ghost platforms at Whitechapel

Does the middle platform at Greenford still show that it is for "British Rail"?

If you go to any of the railway viaducts near the Southbank you'll still find Railtrack signs everywhere, some 10 years after its demise! Waterloo also has a Railtrack plaque in the victory arch entrance. Does the middle platform at Greenford still show that it is for "British Rail"? Indeed it does, as do Harrow On The Hill and Amersham all with current LUL standard signs from the early-mid 90's, makes me smile when I see it. Victoria still had these not so long ago. As for the frieze runs at Euston Square, they look rather retro! it would be nice if they stayed as a historical feature considering they are rare these days. crusty54, are Baker Street's 5+6 runs being replaced? I saw a couple of new standard ones there some weeks back.

I'm sure until relatively recently some of the metal line maps on the Central, can't remember what stations, still had Hainault-Woodford as a shuttle.I even think one station still had the Ongar shuttle on it,may've been Mile End if I remember correctly.

Several Central Line stations still have signs with the shuttle on, albeit plated over. Liverpool Street and Tottenham Court Road come to mind. I presume this has since been fixed, but in 2009 I photographed the following interesting sign: (click for a larger version)

Somebody ordered new LED lamp fittings for the old frieze signs with another person ordering rectangular new signs. Oops.
