The shortlisted bidders to run the Crossrail service under contract to TfL have been announced in the FT and by Crossrail. Press release The successful shortlisted bidders are Go Ahead & Keolis National Express MTR Arriva The following were not successful First Group RATP Stagecoach The bidding process starts in September 2013 with an aim to conclude the process by end 2014. The contract is expected to run for 8 years with an optional 2 year extension. I am slightly surprised that RATP and Stagecoach did not make it through the shortlisting process.

Are NX basing their bid on how successfully the run the C2C franchise. Am I right in saying that's a bit simpler than crossrail. Perhaps they intend to run coaches through the CX tunnels instead. God help us if they win the bidding.

God help us if they win the bidding. Well NX have recently won contracted work in Europe so perhaps they are happier to work in a more regulated environment than with franchises? I know some people will laugh but some of their franchises were noted for being operationally very good. C2C is one and apparently they were OK on Silverlink County (Metro was another story altogether). They obviously have extensive experience of the Shenfield line so will be familiar with its foibles. Crossrail will be a high frequency railway but it's not that complicated. Two branches at each end with some services terminating at Paddington. It is interesting that MTR is bidding on its own and against Arriva whereas they are partners on London Overground. MTR obviously brings a shedload of experience in running underground stations, high frequency services and coping with various signalling technologies. I would expect them to put in a challenging bid and I'd not be surprised to see them win.

Didn't they just lose two franchises...if that's any indication of how they'll run it...

Never thought I'd see the day that worst group, sorry, First Group, are eliminated from a rail bidding process!

As for Silverlink. I lived in Milton Keynes during the time of NX. and can honestly say ************** to NX and railways.
