About twenty or so years ago I recall seing LU stock being hauled through Slough heading west. I assume these were off for refurbishment somewhere. A train ran at the same time each week for some time. I think it was about 1990. Which stock type was this and where was it going? The trains I saw were on a Sunday morning though there could have been others at different times.

Can you remember whether it was tube or surface stock??
I do not know if it is true, but l was once told some tube stock went to the IoW from Ruislip via Greenford loop-Reading-Basingstoke (Eastleigh??) then on to the IoW ferry

The Bakerloo and Victoria line fleets were taken to Rosyth in Scotland by rail for refurbishment around that time. Later in the 90's the Piccadilly fleet were taken by rail to Wakefield for refurbishment.

Dan

Between October 1989 and September 1990 the vast majority of the Central Line's 1962 Stock went for mods at BREL. Two trains were sent each week with (generally) a week turn round (once the programme had got going). One train went to Crewe and the other one went to Derby. I photographed them at various places on route - South Ruislip, Old Oak, Acton Main Line, Ealing Broadway, Southall and Didcot. The changeover day was generally on Sunday mornings.
One Central Line train and Northern Line's 2½ trains of 1962 Stock (along with all the 1956/59 Stock) was done by T.B. Precision at Highgate depot (July 1989 to September 1990).

The 1938 Stock went variously - Ruislip to Clapham (4 consignments) Ruislip to Strawberry Hill direct (1 consignment) Clapham to Strawberry Hill (3 consignments) Clapham to Eastleigh (1 consignment) 1x3-car White City to Wimbledon then Wimbledon to Eastleigh 6 motor car pairs in 6 separate moves Strawberry Hill to Eastleigh Of the 10x2-car units (includes the one never used in service) - 6 2-car units went Eastleigh to Fratton via Woking separately 2 2-car units went Eastleigh to Fratton via Botley separately 2 2-car units were used on brake tests on the Shepperton branch and went (separately) Strawberry Hill to Fratton From Fratton they went in pairs (separately) by road to Portsmouth - Fishbourne (ferry) and then to Sandown (by road) where they were offloaded onto the railway.

Thanks for the replies. I think it must have been the 62stock heading to BREL as reganorak pointed out.
