This station will be closed for some months to install new lifts. Don't suppose there is any chance of renaming it at the same time to avoid the ever-present confusion with the other Edgware Road station?

Admittedly it is not wise to change there for the H&C station but I don't think the name needs changing. It could be called Paddington Green I suppose.

Thie only problem I have with this is the Bakerloo station actually sits on Edgware Road itself, the H&C station sits on Chapel Street.

How about West Marylebone or Griffith House for a renamed station?

Or Marylebone Road? (L1Group would suggest that too)

Why not just keep it simple and officially name it "Edgware Road Bakerloo"?

Why not just keep it simple and officially name it "Edgware Road Bakerloo"? Ah, but should it be "Edgware Road Bakerloo" "Edgware Road - Bakerloo" or perhaps even "Edgware Road (Bakerloo)"?

Why not just keep it simple and officially name it "Edgware Road Bakerloo"? Or just leave it as it is, I think that the confusion between the two stations isn't really that important. For passengers arriving in the area, the distance between the two stations isn't that far and there are connections, in both directions, to/from the Sub-Surface lines. The walk is certainly considerably shorter than between the Hammersmith & City and Bakerloo platforms at Paddington (although Paddington is without the A404/A4 access road to cross).

I remember, many many years ago, I attended a summer course in a language school located near Piccadilly Circus and I stayed in a room near Edgware Road (stations). I bought a season ticket for each week, and it read "Piccadilly Circus to Edgware Rd (B) ".
I supposed I was not allowed to change at Baker Street fot the Circle to the other Edgware Road station!

I called the H&C Stn Marylebone Road, @jammz, but tbh - any of the two could be called Marylebone Road.
The Bakerloo line station should really be named "Edgware Road Bakerloo", "Harrow Road" (it is on the Harrow Road/Edgware Road junction), or indeed "Marylebone Road"!
What would a traveller/tourist prefer - a walk across streets across the A40/A404? Or a nice covered walkway/subway with many steps... And not much way of getting lost completely...

The problem with Marylebone Road is Marylebone. Particularly if you give the name to the H&C station which doesn't serve the mainline station, and while it is in walking distance it's hardly a pleasant walk.
A direct pedestrian link, possibly with moving walkway, between the two would be good but probably nowhere close to value for money.

Which reminds me of when a rather naive colleague had to attend a meeting in Edgware once. He arrived at Paddington and changed onto the circle and disembarked at Edgware Rd, hailed a taxi and asked for an address in the High Street. His boss was not too happy about the resultant expenses claim.

Tower Hill and Green Park are easier to understand. The first three are major roads.

Tower Hill and Green Park are easier to understand. The first three are major roads. No the aren't! Look at them on Google Earth. Apart from th short stretch crossnmg the railway, which has been widened considerably in the last 100 years or so, Rayners Lane is a residential street - when the station opened it was just a country lane. The other two are unassuming city streets, typical of that area of Fitzrovia. Warren Street is about 400 metres long, Goodge Street less than half that. Both originally had other names (Tottenham Court Road and Euston Road). Neither is a bus route

So, Edgware Road... What type of lifts are being taken out, and what type are going in?

The usual silver metal doors will be the case. Modernism.... See Earl's Court and other recently lift fitted underground stations. System will change, and possibly machinery. OTIS lifts, may I assume?

The fascias at the stations already have the line names included. If you're arriving at either of the stations it makes little difference in getting to your destination. Indeed. Only prob would be for someone arriving at Edgeware Rd (Bakerloo) intending to change to a Wimbleware. Of course, they would not have consulted the Underground diagram; and it's an unlikely choice of route. Nonetheless, some means of distinguishing two stations with the same name that require an out-of-station interchange would be desirable. (eg West Hampstead Midland, now WH Thameslink) Already suggested is Edgeware Rd (Bakerloo) or variations thereof. Plus some names that mean little to me. Possible other concepts could reference SSL, "Deep Level". Perhaps "Edgeware Rd Interchange" for the SSL station, and Edgeware Rd (Bakerloo) for the tube. And best of all, why not an escalator link up from the tube platforms to the SSL platforms, keeping the lift access mainly for wheelchairs, prams, heavy wheeled luggage and walking stick/frame users.

My southbound train stopped here for about 5 minutes because of signalling problems yesterday. It was bizarre to see a completely deserted station with its identity and advertising hidden by signs saying "Station Closed"; I've never seen the frieze done like this before.

I comment the suffix 'interchange' on one would make matters worse for unaware passengers while the station stations are separate.
I use the H&C station 2-3 times a week, Bakerloo maybe 1-2 times a month, and also Marylebone as it is just as close a walk to one of the offices (Griffiths House) from there.
I suggest the thing that makes confusion and/or interchange between the two Edgware Roads not so easy is simply the ground level road crossing(s). If there were a direct straight line walkway unimpeded by major roads and the associated traffic lights and junctions, the hassle of someone going to the wrong station or doing out of station interchanging would be greatly mitigated.
There are some subways under Edgware Road, and if you do it in the peaks, and know your way around, I suggest the peak hours SSL station side entrance on Marylebone Road and the zig zagged subway under that road to get to Bakerloo is faster than from the main SSL exit and waiting for the infernal road crossings traffic lights. However I know my way around there, this does not help those who are unaware of the situation.
But is there really that much confusion ? A level of confusion that justifies multi-million £££s on suggestions of connecting by escalator ?? I think not.
Elsewhere, every day on my commute, on trains that call at Luton Airport Parkway I see airport passenger remain on the train to Luton. They have sat on the train at LTN, ignoring the signs, ignoring the PA, ignoring all the other people heaving luggage about, sit their to LUT, and straight way pester ticket barrier staff how to get to the airport.
That level of brainlessness won't be fixed by suffixes or prefixes on a theme of Edgware Road. So if you rename one or both you have to do something very different. Then again, my commute also involves Wood Lane and White City, and apart from both begining with W, there is nothing common in the names, yet you see similar brainless people entering Wood Lane for the Central Line.
These are the people who are the ones who get this wrong. If they can't figure out White City and Wood Lane are different stations on different lines, they also won't figure out the two Edgware Road stations even if both were renamed to something different.
Lastly, I take the point about Bakerloo <-> Wimbleware is one possibility where interchange might be needed, but surely those who know the set-up would never do that, and those that don't know might have looked at a journey planner. I can't be bothered to look myself, but do any of the on line engines direct interchanges between the two ?
May as well leave it as it is. Which they are.
Else I'll start suggesting an interchange between Queensway and Bayswater ......... which is either logical or illogical depending on which line of argument you believe in upthread. I happen to do that interchange about once per month, but I go for journey variations it gets boring doing the same ones all the time.
