I read the following article in last month's Railway Magazine:
"Train drivers have renewed calls for charges of attempted murder to be brought against anyone derailing a train". "This comes after BTP caught vandals placing bricks, concrete, metal poles & wooden stakes on the Manchester-Chester line..."
"...The vandals concerned were taken to their parents and warned that they would face court action if they repeated their actions." - I personally think that's disgraceful, and that they should have been charged. The vandals concerned should do some time in Feltham - that'd sort them out.
Do the LU train operators in this forum agree with an 'attempter murder' charge being brought about, or do you hold a different point of view to your 'main line' counterparts?

Although I am not a train operator (unfortunantly), I think they should have a whole range of charges brought against them. Attempted murder, criminal damage, various trepassing violations, given ASBO's, attempting A/GBH etc. Maybe they should be Sectioned under the Mental Health Act for attempted suicide and anyway, which sane person would play on train tracks with frequent train passings?

I do agree, if their idea of fun is to derail a train, they better get out more! It wouldnt be the first thing i would do if i had a moment of spare time!

Exactly. I must admit that getting hit by xx tonnes of train isn't my idea of a good use for spare time!

I think as well as throwing objects, this crime should be treated as attempted murder, to many, this is seen as a game without a thought of the consequences.

Indeed - when travelling back from Cornwall on an HST today, one little scumbag in Hungerford decided to throw a rock at the train - had it gone through the window I would probably have lost me right eye!
