Just seen on Tubechaser that there are 'Severe' delays due to T/O availability. Any ideas as to why?

Presumably he means: "Why is there a shortage of drivers?"

Sorry...wasn't clear enough. Any reason why there was a shortage of drivers and no relief drivers.

Probably sickness/absenteeism and no spares (all used up covering the sickness/absenteeism).

Probably sickness/absenteeism and no spares (all used up covering the sickness/absenteeism). Done a little digging. The Central was to be suspended Liverpool Street to Grange Hill via Newbury Park on Saturday and Sunday. Apparently some of the work was completed early and on Sunday the line was able to operate additionally between Liverpool Street and Leytonstone. In fact Ealing trains generally ran through to Epping. Because a reduced timetable was in operation for the planned work, requiring less Train Operators than normal, to suddenly increase the service without increasing the number of Train Operators required for it, led to an ad-hoc timetable being implemented. Hence there were some cancellations and gaps in the service.

The engineering work was called off on Saturday after someone left the traction current on in a section where work was scheduled and a bit of kit got welded to the tracks. The engineering crew refused to work on H&S grounds, it was decided to cancel the closure and resume “normal” services. There was a shortage of TOps because they were all coming in at the “special working” times rather than their normal Sunday duties.
