Although we all loved A-stock, I don't really see the purpose of the thread. Most of the A-stocks are in bits and no amount of wishing can put them back together and on LU rails.

It always amuses me when I see the signs like that relating to the A-Stock... like most things, it's probably one of the last things people will remember; or when they do, it will be many years later

I have an idea which is as feasible as the A Stock coming back, so let's have a vote on which of these ideas is likely to happen first!!
Re-build the station at 'Trumpers Crossing (for Osterley Park) Halte', and re-name it 'Trumpers Crossing (for Osterley Park) Halte Parkway'. Build a car park for 50 cars on top of the nearby SSSI, shoot all the badgers, (which is government policy anyway), sell them to Findus to recover the cost of re-building the station, then run a shuttle service to Southall where there are now unbelievable parking problems, using a class 121 which I used to use regularly when they worked the Greenford - Ealing shuttle. This will then connect with Crossrail, and negate the need for any more Uxbridge Road Tramway proposals .
The reason this is more likely to happen than the re-introduction of A Stock is because at Trumpers Crossing (for Osterley Parke) Halte, the line still exists and is now only currently used for the Brentford binliner trains, whereas the A Stock doesn't exist any more, so I think my idea is more likely.
Unfortunately, the line cannot be used at the Brentford end for the football crowds that will soon appear when Brentford F.C. get in the Premiership and enter European competitions, as the Brentford terminus is the wrong side of Brentford for Griffin Park. This proves l have researched the subject.
This hash cake is delicious

castlebar - I'd go further and send XR to Brentford anyway - a serious thought, actually. If that isn't possible, I'd prefer one of the 14xx that worked the Greenford loop, preferably with one of those driving trailers named after birds (I seem to remember "Thrush" as a regular on the run). GH PS I'd settle for a 57xx if need be.

Graham
"Wren" was another
I remember the 54xx on the Greenford branch line (and 14xx) very clearly but not 57xx
I have an unfortunate story about thrush. A girl I was chatting up many years ago > > > For some reason I couldn't remember if her parents had a budgie or a canary. So, for some reason, I asked her "How's the thrush?", but I never did get an answer, nor see her again.
I am glad that you seem to feel my idea is more likely to happen than the reappearance of A Stock. Trumpers Way was an old 'drove road', and if re-instated, you could let your 'beastes' graze overnight on Ealing Common on their last day before reaching Smithfield. The 'beastes' might get a bit confused with Shepherds Bush these days though

Oh dear, some people just don't get it, do they? Well, I certainly don't 'get' what you mean by the above. Presumably you are ridiculing some post(s) but it's entirely unclear which one(s).

The A stock OPO monitors at Finchley Road were still turned on recently, and they could very well still be! Still eerile showing a view of the platform for a train thats never going to come. It was similar after the 83 stock were withdrawn off the jubilee, the platform monitors were there, still turned on for years afterwards.

Thanks! Pretty sparse, considering. Moral is: if you want to buy withdrawn stock, Book Early!

With that many A's you could manage a better service than was achieved during the staff shortages during the 70's.

I suspect this has already been covered elsewhere, so my apologies... Do we know if there will be heritage A stock runs as part of the 150 celebrations this year? I am suffering SERIOUS A stock withdrawal symptoms and am soon going to throttle the S stock recorded announcement lady! Help!

You and me both mate!
The simple answer is probably not. Speaking to Andy Barr last September he said it was very very unlikely that there would be any A stock out for heritage days during 2013 as there is just so much on. Hopefully 2014 will allow them out.

Maybe we could collectively rebuild the fleet in 4mm? XF I'm trying! 5056 and 5112 done. 5234 needs the electrics finished and 5189 being painted. What's next? 5062? Also 5002 planned in silver and brand spanking new!

Unfortunately, the line cannot be used at the Brentford end for the football crowds that will soon appear when Brentford F.C. get in the Premiership and enter European competitions, as the Brentford terminus is the wrong side of Brentford for Griffin Park err - Brentford would've moved by then to Brentford Community Stadium at Kew Bridge Triangle by then. In a few seasons time Then Kew Bridge Stn would handle the large crowds coming down from the rest of the country. Football specials, anyone, on the Hounslow Loop? Unless Brentford 'do a Southampton, and then some' (the promotion bit from L1-Prem, obviously)

I don't know how much this manager I was talking to knew about the 19th May, but they said that moves were afoot to make a four car A60 roadworthy for that date. Don't know how much longer I'll be working on the Met, but I'll keep my ear to the ground.

That would be great. As long as the turn rounds could be arranged it would work well.

It says Vehicle? Does this mean 5034 will be dragged to Rickmansworth and placed in the sleet bay? That would be a huge disappointment!
