Had a very informative driver on a journey from Oxford Circus to Stratford today, even pointing out that we were passing the disused British Museum Station and referring to the Bethnal Green disaster. At one point he mentioned his website unfortunately this was unintelligible. Does anybody know the web address of his site. Please let him know his commentary was much appreciated. .

I had a driver last week on a Algate bound Metropolitain Line train who personally announced Kings Cross station in English and French. Made me chuckle even if no one else paid any attention.

On various journeys on the Chiltern lines, I've had a driver who announced every (regular) bus service at every station including all the bus services to/from Aylesbury bus station; station staff who would announce via Amersham services as via the Metropolitan Railway; I've also heard announcements for the following stations: Leamington Spa General; Banbury General; West Ruislip for Ickenham; Chorley Wood & Chenies; and Aylesbury Joint Station.

I think announcing Northolt Junction would be a bit extreme as it might risk passengers being over carried! On the topic of archaic names, BR continued to refer to the station at Chorleywood as Chorley Wood & Chenies well into the 60s even though LT renamed the station Chorley Wood in 1934 and then plain old Chorleywood in 1964! The same thing happened to Amersham as well, with BR referring to the station as Amersham & Chesham Bois even though the station was renamed Amersham in 1937! Bizarrely BR did not refer to Moor Park as Moor Park & Sandy Lodge when this station was renamed in 1950.

Yesssss ... must have been the same T/Op on my train earlier today. I did EB WHC to STP, and he gave clear announcements at every station, and between TCR and HOL he mentioned LU 150, plugged the LT museum at Covent Garden, and exactly the same as the OP of this thread as we ran past site of British Museum pointed out the closed station.
This T/op deserves some recognition for this, I generally dislike PA except where it is clear and useful, and this was exactly that, clear, informative, succinct, precise, and used well constructed English. I'm not posting the train number today as I don't like to post specific stuff like that, but I might put something in writing about it to LU.

The Chiltern Driver is Dave Newell MBE www.chilternrailways.co.uk/mobile/news/driver-gets-well-deserved-mbe/7598I haven't heard him for a while and thought he'd retired. However another driver confirmed that he's still around, mainly working afternoons to help fit in with his school safety talks.
