Could it be... a backdoors pilot for the return of 'Steam on the Met'? Ahh, we can but dream!

I have a question: I have to make the decision wether I should spend about 500 £ to fly to London, book a hotel, etc. in order to attend this event quite soon. Could you please offer me your opinions and guesses about whether there will be more "Steam on the Met" or other events involving trains hauled by Metropolitan №1 in the coming years? Unfortunately I am rather tight on money at the moment, so I'd only like to really do this in the case that this is probably the last such occasion in the foreseeable future.
Thank you and greetings from Austria! benkda01

Hello all.
I'm having the same predicament as benkda01.
Do you know if there are going to be other events like this this year or a future annual event?
Thank you for your time.

Thanks for reminding me. £45 to travel on a 120 year old train? You'd reckon that they'd give you a new train for that money! Booked on the 14:30 Sunday run in Met coach 353.

Thank you and greetings from Austria! benkda01 Hi Benkda01 Just a quick heads up that the Champions League Final is at Wembley that weekend, so hotels could be at a premium; if you are going to come over, it would be worth booking anything before the finalists are decided. Best wishes

Is there any further update on if/when Mr A will make a guest appearance?

Does anyone know how the day will be run, e.g will there be any loco changes or will it be the same steam loco each day. And details of the empty path between ruislip and neasden would be great

There will be three locos each day with the changes happening in the siding at Amersham (that's public on the museum website, if a bit buried).

Hi - I've got a ticket for one of the runs, but my wife doesn't want to go, but will accompany me to Amersham, to take photos. Are "Platform Tickets" still available these days?

They cost £1, and are available from the ticket office, or from the ticket machines under "Extensions and Other Tickets*" *If they are not displayed, ask the member of staff on the gateline to turn on child tickets for you, and explain you're looking for platform tickets. With child tickets switched on platform tickets also appear!

Knew Child tickets could be turned off but didn't realise you could buy platform tickets as well from the machines!

Unfortunatley I left it too late to purchase a ticket behind Met1, but I still plan to take my camera with me into London and photograph it as it passes at some point on the route. Which station along the route would be best for this, e.g won't be too crowded, and a good site to photograph the passing train from

So fancy dress is the name of the game for ‘Steam on the Met’ 2013, so have you got your outfit designed ready to join the locos which have had a ‘makeunder’? Remember Metropolitan and LUL colours only.
Can someone please inform me when 20 227 with its giant UNDERGROUND roundel is actually going to travel underground (Harrow and Wembley flyunders excluded).
I pity visitors wanting to photograph a full length steam train finding this ostentatious diesel tailing.
What next? Smiling faces on the smoke box doors?

Can anyone here elaborate on the reason for having both a Class 20 and Sarah on each run, when in the past only the one was needed at t'other end?

Chris I was working on the assumption that any breakdowns / delays on the line from HOTH to Amersham would impact on Chiltern Railways and therefor cost TFL money in 'fines' so they'd want Sarah and a 20 to enable to them to get going again.

For the original Steam on the Met there was some sort of interface box that allowed the vacuum braked steam locomotive to operate with the air braked LU stock. Now that Sarah Siddons has had vacuum brakes refitted it acts as the interface between the two different brake systems. Regards, Dan

The place that seemed to have the best view for photos today was the car park of Waitrose in Rickmansworth. Amersham was something of a zoo, though I got some decent shots with a bit of patience and an eye to cropping out the massed hordes.

Thanks it was either there or moor park as looking at google maps it has a road bridge just to the north of the station.
