Hi, I am building a collection of British Rail locomotive and units driving cabs. I currently have 3, 45128, 47086 and 47034, I about to take ownership of a BR Class 506 as well. I would really like to purchase a cab from an underground unit from the 60s or 70s. I don’t really mind exactly what type even a departmental or battery unit. Any advice or information about stored units or any about to be scrapped would be welcomed. Help please; D I found this on flickr 1972 MkI Tube Stock Cab end of 3214 in Northfields depot www.flickr.com/photos/24772733@N05/2844053196/is it still there?

Where were you when the 67 and A-stocks were being scrapped?

There are a few unused 72s around the network albeit they're in a bad nick. There's a unit (i think) of Mk1 1972ts in experimental corporate livery at Acton and one unrefurb at London Road Depot

C69/77 stock units will be going for scrap over the next couple of years, could nab one from these. May want to contact TfL about it though.

You could approach Knights Rail Environmental @ Eastleigh instead. Both dealers/merchants will have recycling licenses dealing with substances, many of which may be potentially very hazardous. It may be this latter issue that could potentially prevent cars (or part of) from being passed/sold onto third parties. You can all but ask, but prepared for the answer to be no... TfL would therefore be your best bet.

Ahh, so you own the now unique end of a 506? Good for you! A terrible shame that the other 2¾ cars of the unit were allowed to rust away and be scrapped in 'preservation' previously. One wonders when EMU's will attract the amount of dedication from the preservation community that they deserve.
Certainly TfL seems to have enforced a monopoly on A stock preservation by ensuring the scrapping of everything else. >:-(
