Q27 (K stock) cars had the side window nearest the driver's position much cloer to the driver's door, rather than centrally positioned between the driver's door and the first set of passenger doors as this model has it. It is surely a Q31 or Q35 (L or M) stock car.

It is indeed a Q31 motor car. It is in the process of being converted out of a Q35 trailer. Still much to do but its getting there. Full marks to norbitonflyer! The difference between Q31 and Q35 stock was actually the doors. The L stock had beading round the door glazing but the M/N cars did not. That will be a challenge to model....

It's certainly a work of art. I hadn't realised the K was any different from the L/M type; I always thought it was just a matter of builder or batch. Time to get the magnifying glass out.
This is the type of car I wanted to re-create using withdrawn Met. A60/62 stock underframes and gear. Five trains, each of three motors and four trailers, running in the Summer timetable would give a lovely Yerkes-era flavour to the system for locals and visitors alike.
Were District trains ever green? I have a persistent childhood memory, from about age six, that District trains were painted green, but I can't find any supporting evidence. We would have been going from Kings Cross to the Motor Show, so I'm certain it would be the District I'm remembering.

I don't think District stock was green in that period - some of the early (1870s) locos may have been green and I guess you weren't about then The L and M/N stock were all built by different manufacturers but were virtually the same. The L stock was built by UCC, the M stock by Birmingham and the N stock trailers built by Metro-Cammell. The K stock motors were built by Birmingham and were different to the later cars. They had hinged guards doors and as mentioned a different window layout. They had flush glazing and different window droplights. They had a different internal layout as the L/M/N trailers were mostly composite with a 1st class section. If you want to use A stock parts you may have to do some chopping. The A stock was noticably longer than the Q stock cars and the width, bogies and equipment would be very different too.

Perhaps it was BR EMU stock that you saw as there is and was a fair amount of shared track and formations around Earls Court. AFAIK the only District stock to be painted green was a train of the original Edwardian A stock, if you saw that congratulations on your 113th birthday. ;D

The INTERIORS were often painted green, with (on the Q Stock) a fair bit of wood and glass. What approximate year are we talking here? SR EMUs were green until about 1968ish I think.

AFAIK the only District stock to be painted green was a train of the original Edwardian A stock, if you saw that congratulations on your 113th birthday. ;D If you were going to the Motor Show from Kings Cross, you would sureely use the Picadilly Line and, using the subway to the exhibition centre, never see the District at all. Moreover, I can't think of any BR EMU which would find itself anywhere near Earls Court in the green era. LMS Oerlikon stock worked into Earls Court from Willesden Junction until 1940, but that was before nationalisation so it would have been in LMS red. Kensington Olympia (where the Motor Show was held until 1937) would see the occasional train of Southern Railway loco-hauled stock - that would have been green, but the line to Clapham Junction was not electrified until c1990. In BR days, you would have had to stray as far as East Putney to see green SR emu stock. You would see green dmu stock on the Underground (City Widened Lines) in the Kings Cross area.

I am fairly sure that the exhibition subway at Earl's Court hasn't been used since about 2005.
See "Stations" section and Earl's Court thread.
