I was wondering...if it wasn't for the war damage would trains still use the Latimer Road curve and run trains to Olympia and beyond? Perhaps during the rebuilding of Shepherds Bush they may have built a bay platform for trains to start terminating there instead. I'm talking about if trains weren't stopped due to war damage, would the service have still survived until now?
I would love to know what people think.

Even if it survived the war, it may be demolished due to the West Cross Route being built through the curve.

I think that war damage to sations on the West London Line was used as the rationale for closing a number of passenger services in order to free capacity up for freight and troop movements.Not just te Middle Circle but the LMS Willesden-Earl's Court service and the stopping trains down to Clapham Jct were suspended at this point. After the War,I think the climate of opinion was against spending money re-instating these inner-suburban services. Nowadays,they might be very useful links. Some while ago this was discussed in another thread and one of our senior contributers remembers seeing the rails,intact but rusty,at the Latimer Road end well into the 50s. However,the building of he West Cross Route has sealed the matter,at least for the time being.

in the fifties ,and I dont remember for how long afterwards, the curve was used in the down direction by one freight train I think per week or thereabouts taking empty wagons somewhere . It only ran in the down direction because of the gradien going up . I recall passing on a H&C train abouit 1951 or so and seeing all rails rusty except the two running rails on the down track .(These were fairly rusty but showing signs of infrequent use.

Working from memory, there is a book entitled "Old Oak Engineman"
IF I am right, l think there is reference to this as a regular trip working duty from Old Oak shed. If anyone has this book, it could throw light on why the curve was retained and what use it had post-war.

The rails were there into the 70's. I beg to differ. I used the H&C a lot in the 60's going to the MRC and don't remember seeing rails there. I learnt the H&C in 1973 and I don't remember there then either! I do remember the diamond crossings at Wesrbourne Park for access for goods trains to Crimea Yard!

got to read a copy of Old oak engineman and it doesn't mention any workings over the curve. It mentions S/B goods yard the other side of the WL line almost opposite the curve.

Just FYI, Joe Brown (London Railway Atlas 3rd Edition) shows freight usage there until 01.03.1954.

Looking at the old OS maps here (co-ordinates 523688 180660), the curve shows on the 1955-58 London 1:10560 edition, but tracks are gone on the 1962-68 version.

After doing some digging the rails were removed July 1957 viaduct demolished 1968.

After doing some digging the rails were removed July 1957 viaduct demolished 1968. I always had been under the impression that the war damage was to the viaduct connection itself. It is with some annoyance (at the bloody mindedness of our - I was living in England at the the time - then "leaders") that I now learn the connection was sound, and was simply demolished for a bit of rather redundant Motorway. As to what use could be made now? Well consider Praed St Junction, and Earls Court western junctions. No scope for extra trains. Possibility of Paddo terminators running to CLJ or Wimbledon.
