I was studying Harsig's excellent diagram of the Northern Heights extensions and their signalling arrangements at www.harsig.org/PDF/NorthernExtensions.pdf and I immediately noticed that there was no information shown for Muswell Hill, Alexandra Palace or the line south of Highgate towards Finsbury Park. I was also reading this fascinating thread over at The Signal Box about the various methods used by LT for remote control of lever frames during the late 1930s and early 1940s, and when I looked at both together, a question came to mind: What level of resignalling was planned for Muswell Hill and Alexandra Palace, and would any lever frames at this site have been directly operated or remote controlled from Park Junction (NH) using one of the techniques discussed? Likewise, if the line south of Highgate had ever been resignalled by LT, would any lever frames south of there also have been directly operated or would they also have been remote controlled from Park Junction? P.S.: www.wbsframe.mste.co.uk/public/Pictures/lt/Park_Junction_disused_1990.jpg is a thoroughly depressing photo...

Directly operated. Dell disliked Deterflex. That was the impression I got from reading the entire thread, but I had wondered if some of the route lever arrangements discussed in the thread were considered for use for those lever frames or if the resignalling was proceeding too early on for route lever working to be considered.

No, route lever working dates from '36 and Cromwell Road. PM me an email address if you're interested in the Cromwell Road installation.
I'll type up a bit more when I'm on a computer rather than a phone.

You will all be pleased to know that I have uploaded and released the fruits of my research hereI am quite pleased indeed. It's an excellent post that answers a lot of questions that I had. I am curious though if your research ever turned up any discussion of using remote control for the cabins on the Alexandra Palace branch. I'd expect that once the goods yards closed there would be a very strong desire to centralize control, but in the early days I would be curious if such centralization was even thought of.
