Went past Plumstead Portal today, noticed that there were stockpiles of concrete tunnel segments in the yard, in readiness for tunnelling to commence shortly.

Good to see that its progressing.
Does anyone have any thoughts about the revised layout at Abbey Wood? The change from rising between the lines to both being to the north?

Its interesting you say that. Recently I managed to speak to Terry Morgan after a lecture he gave, and it was his opinion that the new layout was an improvement aswell. I don't understand why though, as it abolishes cross-platform interchange at Abbey Wood, and introduces a flat junction should it be connected to Belvedere?

The revised layout also means that, in the event of Maintenance Works on Crossrail, only one separation barrier need be erected between the Crossrail and Southeastern lines. Using the original alignment would have entailed two separating barriers being erected.

Why would that matter?

Ben, I don't agree how a terminus such that:
THRU ǀ ǀ BAY BAY ǀ ǀ THRU
is called cross platform interchange, as only half of those who interchange would be able to enjoy the feature. Termini as islands are much more pleasing, unless your bay platforms are staggered back half a train length to create a nice area to move around the platform.

Not quite half a train length back, but the |#TT#| layout at Dalston Junction seems to be well designed for interchange.

Some point in the first couple of weeks in January. They don't want to announce a date just yet - just in case it slips due to TBM assembly delays. I had a look around the site last week: www.ianvisits.co.uk/blog/2012/12/19/photos-the-crossrail-tunnel-portal-at-plumstead/
