Doubtless related to problems last night, my son was stuck at Moor Park at about 8.00pm for about two hours. It would be good to hear an explaination of last night's problem, at one point the train moved forward slightly at the platform to allow the following Chiltern to proceed right up the S stock and discharge passengers through the drivers door.

How on earth can we have a lack of trains, after just buying 58 new ones?? "train preparation issues, suspected frozen presure switches". 10 trains cancelled.

Watford South Junction went down last night, points and signals. In the morning I can guess would be wrong number of trains in the wrong positions for the early turn.

That doesn't help either!
No I am not involved with S stock maintenance! If I was there'd be more than 10 out of service! I'm rubbish with computers! ;D

Amazing, after decades of running a railway one might expect new rolling stock to be fit for purpose in all weathers. It really is about time that LUL ditched the bean counters that seem to run the outfit these days in favour of engineers who understand all the challenges to providing reliable services. One would expect such an issue to be discovered and corrected during evaluation trials.

All sorts of rolling stock types and other technology occasionally gets caught out by weather or by a strange combination of circumstances (planned or unplanned). There is no such thing as perfect foresight which means testing and development can never be perfect. I am sure you must have come across these sorts of things in your time with LT. This is nothing to do with "bean counters". Engineers have never operated without financial oversight, even going back decades. Hopefully the Met rolling stock engineers and Bombardier have done a full root cause analysis and have developed a suitable tweak to the technology or train prep processes. If there was to be a repeat on S8s or S7s (or even 09s if they are similar in this respect) then I think criticism would be more valid because good practice would suggest that learning is done quickly and applied quickly across the fleet(s) (circumstances permitting).

Weather has always been a fundamental issue, one would think it one of the key areas in relation to any component liable to suffer in terms of performance as a result of differing weather conditions. Perhaps the DDM or whatever s/he is called these days didn't catch the weather forecast and put appropriate maintenance procedures in place if the reported cause of failure was correct! As for the 'bean counters' comment there is a subtlety there, the idea that engineers are less competent than their predecessors as they are too busy doing paperwork.

But its what they told the punters freezing on the stations.. ;D That's just typical LU, unfortunately most punters are sheep and will swallow 'beeper centex' without question. No wonder the country is in such a state these days, the same kind of dishonesty seems to permeate many corporates as well as government and other organisations these days. As an employee I always held the opinion that company honesty was the best policy without very good reason. No doubt this could result in the carriage of freezer aerosols by passengers being a reason for stop and search and possible detention pending arrest on suspicion of going equipped to sabotage rolling stock by the thought police.
